yeah the brawler can be a good mech.

I have a vanguard too... it's the second mech i bought (excluding very not fred assault cuz late beta) and also coincidentally the best heavy for my playstyle. Still didn't want initiate vanguard

Open beta has been great for light mechs... to the point that a good pilot is almost allways better off in a class a. Wish i were there for closed beta though.

I just started playing. Assault so far with an SMG. What camera shake do you guys use? Any tips for a newby?

My camera shake is default.
Assault is borderline OP, and really solid.
Boosting, dodging, jumping and shooting make you appear on radar, so if you want to flank be sure to just walk.
Learn to detonate your TOW rocket mid-air, it's very important to get the splash damage since you will rarely land the projectile itself.
Playing peek-a-boo around corners with the TOW is important when you're outnumbered or low on health.
If you run away, be sure to not do so in a straight line, dodge sideways in random intervals.
Stay with your team at all times until you get really good. If they are not spawned, just hide until they do.
Don't fly around too much, it makes you a giant target for everyone around.
If you have ever played Armored Core or tank games, you should already know the basics of getting outside the turn ratio of your opponent. Do that in Hawken as well.

If they haven't changed the balance noticably in the past year or two then Heavies are literally the scariest thing on the field in the hands of a good player.
SA-Hawkins Brawler is literally incapable of losing 1v1s at every distance except Sharpshooter/Reaper-range, outside of ambushes.
