Speaking as someone who read IBO threads on /m/ and decided not to bother with it, watching it on Toonami dubbed makes me see just why it had such a good response when the series first started. Episodes 1 and 2 had some really cool ideas that were well-executed, though the whole First Platoon and Kudelia plots are already grating on my soul.

That's not too bad considering the first week people were bitching about 'where's DBZ'. Then again, some were still doing that this past week, and they ARE still making a point of explaining it in the bumpers.

First ep did that thing where they just show a title card, then run the OP music as the ED. In at least one version they ran it over the OP animation, in the Daisuki version it was just over black with the Tekkadan logo fading in. Toonami cut it to just the intro music up to the vocals, then cut to the bridge, then faded out. So we at least got a solid RAISE YOUR FLAAAG.

Ep 2 they ran the full op and cut the ED pretty severely. Like, they did the explosions visual, then jumped to the zoom out on everyone around Barbatos, and the corn still.

It'll be harder to cut the ED going forward, though, because it starts up during the last scene, and in some eps they go deep into the ED still having dialogue. Cases like that, I'd honestly rather they do a simple titlecard over a butchered op.

First, some people like it and want it succeed.

Second, the fandom growing is considered a GOOD thing by many, especially since it could mean gunpla becoming cheaper and more easily available in the West.

Third, gundam is huge franchise that can be ANYTHING: slice of life, sports, martial arts, the post apocalypse, slap stick comedy, etc.
There is no such thing as a good or representation of Gundam because Gundam is many things only united by the purpose of advertising model kits to children and man children.
