Depends. I'd either want a mecha with an escape pod (not like a core fighter but still a useful escape pod) or a vehicular (aero or otherwise) transformable if the situation/setting calls for it. Vehicle/Powered Armor is okay too. Gattai is out of the question.

It depends. I'd like a transformable for the most part, but depending on who my partner (if I have one) is I might or might not want a gattai.

I want one that doesn't transform or combine with another robot, but does have a whole suite of interchangeable parts and various suits of armor that I could take advantage of so I can play tacticool strategist with rocket punches. Sort of like how Zambo Ace would stand around, customizing its gun before it gave up and combined into Zambot anyway

Depends on the series in Getter Robo it means you have a single unit that has three different modes of function.

The SRZ from Super robot Was has three individual units that have good power and reliable ability on their own and can beat enemies and finish tasks without issue before becoming the ultimate death machine when needed.

Getter aside, it really depends.

In the Eldran franchise for example, the titular robot form for all series has a Daiguard level of power usage. Using the subunits to probe and figure out a plan before combining allows you to finish the job quicker.

In Dairugger, Combattler V or Voltes V the uncombined forms have their own roles and purposes as an alternate vehicle such a tracked digger.
