They do in other games too, but that's more for balance and whatnot (imagine a grappling attack that didn't stun or stop the target on hit). In the show they are quite literally just grappling hooks, they aren't electrified and there's no other force applied other than the impact of the hook and the hook gripping onto the target surface.

Unicorn has a bunch of Fan Service that is much more satisfying after you have watched 0079, Zeta, ZZ and Chars Counter Attack.

How can they be experienced but still be operating secretly, any activities should immediately expose them if they're attacking Feds or civilians. Nemo pilots were veterans too, why would they be lacking experienced pilots when there's been plenty of unrest and open war in the Earth sphere for the last decade? This has ultimately been my favorite GM look since I saw it.

It just has a better paint job than the classic, and I like the vents more.
