/m/ hating a show before it even airs? Why that is such unprecedented event. To be fair the hate in this thread is mild compared to that upcoming Regalia - The Three Sacred Stars show.

As for this show, we will see I guess.
>>
>>14333271
Anybody? Which anime won that shitty rigged online contest?
>>
I'm assuming this one, since it was made.

Why do you think the contest was rigged?
>>
>>14335413
Another more interesting show was about to win and at the last second hundreds of votes flooded in for this one.
>>
>>14330394
>This girl is only a side character
>Will only have 60 lines in the entire series
>Not even the waifu of the MC
>Probably the best girl
Why does Japan insist on doing this?
>>
Let's see the goddamn robots already
>>
>>14333856
>>14335396
I'm salty because it won a rigged contest against several shows with more interesting premises. One was another very generic premise, but the other two were robots looking after a human baby, and mecha parkour racing.
>>
What's with the knock-off transformed Macross?
>>
>>14333740
Because it's premise just sounds like a boring eva clone and it won over more interesting concepts.

>inb4 someone mentions the parkour car robots one
The other shows that werent completely retarded, faggots.
>>
>>14335396
>>14327889
That has to be the ugliest female lead I've seen in ages.
>>
>>14335472
Actually it got tens of fucking thousands of views in the last day while Deandrive's viewcount suddenly FROZE.

This is a Fuji TV project and they're infamous for yarase bullshit so yeah it was rigged.

Also the entire plot was put online and it was fucking rubbish.
>>
>>14339958
>Also the entire plot was put online and it was fucking rubbish.
To elaborate: They put up the full plotline of the entire series on the website during the Mechatsuku thing (two of the other shows, the one with the robots raising a baby and the other grimderp one did it too).

RS Project's thing is that the main character guy is a sub pilot to an obvious Ayanami Rei ripoff girl who is a poor tragic heroine because she loses her memories whenever she pilots the robot.

The big plot twist at the end is that she doesn't lose her memories, he just thinks that she does because HE'S THE ONE LOSING THE MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!! And then he locks himself up in his room and refuses to pilot the robot, the girl fights on her own, he finds a message from her and it turns out that they were lovers or something and he just forgot and he goes to rescue her but she already got herself killed because women can't drive for shit, and then he goes mad and kamikazes the monsters on his own. The series ends ambiguously cutting to black during his charge.

No idea how much of this they'll keep in the final version but either way I doubt it'll be good.
>>
Still mad this won instead of Dean Drive. There needs to be more mecha with a female lead possibly having romance with her subpilots.
I hope this bombs.
>>
>>14327889
I just rewatched the original trailer, back when the contest was still going.

RS Project was the shittiest looking from all five, but now somehow it looks even worse. The artstyle became even more generic, and I was under impression the protagonists were adults (and the female was the lead). Now we have more fucking high schoolers.

Still salty Star Storks didn't win. Or at least Deandrive - it looked generic but at least something that could've been fun.
>>
>>14340393
>The big plot twist at the end is that she doesn't lose her memories, he just thinks that she does because HE'S THE ONE LOSING THE MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

And why is this supposed to be "fucking rubbish"? It's a fairly interesting twist.
>>
>>14342003
No, it's a dumb one. How does he think she's losing her memories when he's the one that's forgetting everything? Is she going to pretend to be retarded while he spouts delusions?
>>
>>14333740
We will never see Star Storks because of this.

Enjoy your uninspired Evaclone with bad CGI and hammy unrealistic movements.

This looks like the partially aborted child of a 99ยข Kungfu DVD, someone's RahXephon fanfic, and a fucking Tomo News animation.

Here's the page:

>>
>>14341952

I hate female protagonists, so I'm okay with this.
>>
>>14342054

If she's a Rei clone, she would clearly become even more distant from him as he lost memories. It would be like if you had Alzheimer's, and you couldn't understand why everyone around you was acting strangely.

If she can't - or won't - tell him what's wrong, how would he know?

The concept of "losing memories" reminds me this.
>>
>>14348216
We wouldn't have seen Star Storks anyway because it got no votes AND Tomino bashed it (as being old-fashioned).

Also it was hilarious when Tomino basically called out Fuji TV on their bullshit when he bashed RS as "obviously made by professionals" but they gave no shits and rigged the thing anyway.
>>
>>14348505
At least that tried to be funny sometimes. RS doesn't seem like it'll have much levity/comedy relief beyond the moodmaker repair girl.
>>
>>14341952
But doesn't this also have a female lead?
>>
>>14348869
What's wrong with being old fashioned? Star Storks at least had a classic sci fi contest, which is more original than the other four entries which aimed to be as safe and generic as possible.

Just so we're clear - I'm not arguing with you, only being puzzled at Tomino and what the old man is saying sometimes.

The whole contest is a joke. It was advertised as making your dream mecha anime come true, so you'd expect to see some really unusual or out there ideas. Yet from the contestants we have four that aren't even remotely original, and one that is kinda original but nobody liked it.

It was either all one huge set up, or Japanese mecha fans are incapable of thinking up interesting visions.
>>
>>14348897
*a classic sci fi concept

Sorry, I just woke up.
>>
>>14348897
>What's wrong with being old fashioned?

Tomino said its concept was old and overdone.

Sounded pretty unique to me but eh Tomino.
>>
>>14348936
I can think of only one other show that had robots caring for the last human, and they were only regular sized robots (and had a hot gynoid combat unit and some robot in an apron. Can't remember the name for the life of me.) I have no idea what that crazy man is thinking. It makes no sense to call the concept 'overdone' when Deen Drive, RS and Project sparks all rehash ideas that have been done to death. Just tomino being tomino I guess.

(I actually think the Pakour mecha idea was pretty unique. Mecha racing shows have been done (like IGPX), but they are rarer than war shows. I can't really think of a show that's fast and the furious or Initial D with mecha. The pakour aspect could have been cool as well. The visuals and trailer of Enthusiast! -The Custom- were the worst looking though.
>>
>>14348956
Kurogane Communication was about a bunch of robots and a human girl living like a family in a post-apocalyptic world, maybe you're thinking about that.
>>
If you think literally, if you were the organizer of this contest and anime project, would you employ some random amateur artists or writers who have never worked in anime industries before?

I assume the contest was rigged and was planed to choose RS project from the start, unless somebody post a better story plot and epic mech design(which didn't happen).
>>
>>14348936
It does kinda sound like Journey to the West in space if you squint (three misfits/unusual folks having to escort someone important to a destination).

>>14348956
>It makes no sense to call the concept 'overdone' when Deen Drive, RS and Project sparks all rehash ideas that have been done to death. Just tomino being tomino I guess.

Tomino praised Dean Drive because of the concept of a main character with acrophobia using a flying robot.

He said SS was too old-fashioned and overdone, and that the car mod one was a good idea but didn't have anything that necessitated mecha in it.

He said the other grimderp one (name is slipping my mind at the moment) had potential, saying that it would all depend on the big secret the main character is supposedly hiding (the full plot for that was put on the website too, the big twist is that the main character in the future part is actually not the same guy as the main character from the past part but a clone, and the past part MC is the mastermind villain).

That second grimderp one and Deandrive were the only ones actually done by young people though, and he had an obvious bias going on there (car thing was done by a former Tamiya engineer, SS was by a 60-year-old guy who does mecha art for trading cards, RS is a fucking Fuji TV project rigged to win). He kept on going on about how young people have great imaginations and will be the ones to hold up the industry from now on and so on.

>>14348973
>>14348956
He didn't elaborate but I think he was referring more to the space runaway theme than the raising a kid thing.
>>
>>14348969
>If you think literally, if you were the organizer of this contest and anime project, would you employ some random amateur artists or writers who have never worked in anime industries before?
The thing is, what they CLAIMED was that they'd get the IDEAS from amateur mecha fans which they would then tune up into a professional work.

Instead they didn't even give a shit about this flimsy premise and didn't just rig it so that their project would win, but outright didn't bother to hide that it was made by professionals, not fans, and didn't give a shit when Tomino called them out on it.

Fuji TV is infamous for rigging shit though (google ใƒ•ใ‚ธใƒ†ใƒฌใƒ“ ใ‚„ใ‚‰ใ›) so it's hardly surprising.

Managed to dig up archived posts on all this

>Enthusiast! -The Custom takes place in a world where custom robots race parkour-style through the Tokyo streets. The main character is 29-year-old Masaaki Takahashi who one day sees a "mech battle race" on the way home from work, and it ignites his passion. His two main rivals are the charismatic racer Yusuke Nishijima and the genius high school girl Chihiro Sone.

>RS Project (originally proposed as "F.S. Project" for "Find Storage") takes place in a parallel world that resembles modern Japan, but where alien lifeforms known as "Kikล" (Trick) fell from the sky ten years prior and started attacking humanity. The main characters are a pilot, Mizuru Mido, and her assistant, Fuu Sagami, who use a mecha made out of an enemy's remains. However, battle causes memory loss for the pilot, and they must unravel the mystery as to why.

>Day Break Dean-Drive takes place in the distant future, when humanity is in a reconstruction period after losing its technological advancements. One day, monsters attack from the sky and 14-year-old Asuna Seo loses her home and mother. She must overcome her trauma and become a pilot for one of the mecha that has been excavated from ancient ruins to fight back.
>>
>>14349020
>space runaway
Well, no wonder. Granted, Gundam is pretty much the only franchise/IP at the moment with characters running away in space for some reason.
>>
>>14348969
The premise of the contest is that amateurs only provide the ideas regarding setup, general atmosphere, characters, etc, and a basic plot writeup. The actual meat of the work and all visuals was provided by professional artists - first for the five finalist nominees, and then finally the victor.

And yes, it sounds rigged.
>>
>>14349034
>Star Storks takes place 10,000 years in the future, when Mecha are protecting earth from aliens and trying to revive humanity from extinction. Finally, a human child is created, but only one. Three mechaโ€”walking heavy tank Gimlet, mechanical knight Daiquiri, and highly intelligent faster-than-light rocket Moscow Muleโ€”are assigned to escort the child to another galaxy in hopes of finding other humans.

>deadEndSparks takes place in the near future, after giant monsters attacked and were fought off by a "super hero team" of mecha pilots. Years later, however, a terrorist organization called "triple negative" starts using the mecha. The story stars Kazuma, who has chลซnibyo. He has lost his memory and doesn't know that he really was the leader of the super hero team that saved the planet.

DES and Deandrive were massively in the lead before RS suddenly starting getting thousands on views in the last 48 hours out of nowhere while the others were fucking FROZEN.

Original proposals

>Star Storks: The proposal does say that the entire point of the show is to show off how cool mecha is (inertia, mechs with weight, complex transformations and gimmicks, AI starting to learn about emotions) but none of that was in the PV so eh. Doesn't help that the designs look like shit from a TCG or something. Story is composed of three parts, 1: Escape from Earth with a robot army fighting against space spider monsters. 2: The three robots spend ten years taking the last human child on a journey to find more humans. They end up deciding to jump into a black hole to get to another Earth. 3: The other Earth had experienced a robot uprising before and hate robots. The three robots decide to pretend to be evil and say they have a human child hostage and are destroyed by the other Earth's humans, but the child lands on the planet safely and lives happily ever after. I'm sorry but this sounds fucking terrible.

>Enthusiast's proposal says it wants to put emphasis on the fun of customizing your machine, but I'm not sure if that'd work with something fictional (maybe that's why they're car-like, so that they can toss in car lingo with the modding stuff?). And the proposal clearly states that it features "parkour action". No story details, just simple profiles of the characters and the setting.

>Dead End Sparks: Story jumps back and fourth between past (team of super robots fighting giant monsters) and present (supposed leader of the super robot team fighting against a human rebellion of some sort). Turns out the healer guy who supposedly died in the past faked his death and is the mastermind, main character is a clone, his original went nuts because he killed his girlfriend with friendly fire, blah blah blahhhh
>>
This is all I could find

>>14349042
>FS (RS) Project: Mysterious aliens invade and all our weapons are useless on them and holy shit it's just Titan/Arpeggio/Aldnoah/every single fucking thing lately all over again. Main character is the co-pilot to the girl who pilots the robot, and the robot eats her memories. PLOT TWIST: HER MEMORIES ARE FINE, IT'S EATING HIS MEMORIES. Also he's actual an alien who was brainwashed by humans. He angsts and cries and refuses to get on the robot until he finds a diary with his missing memories and he realises he loves her but whoops too late she got herself killed so he gets into a robot and kills all the enemies losing all of his memories in the process THE END. Bawwwww so sad.

>Deandrive: The world seems like an entirely different one but actually takes place in the far future of Earth after civilization was wiped out once, the enemies are silicon life-forms created by the previous civilization of Earth that were dumped out in space because they couldn't be controlled, where they gained sentience and got mad at mankind and want revenge. The robots' sentience don't come from AI, they have the same silicon-based life inside of them. Main character's robot does some understanding with the enemies and he goes off into space with them because the robot always has to part with the main character in these stories.
>>

>>
>>14349042

God damn it japan, can't you find a different ending for the bro sentient robots than just blowing them up at the end? At least Delores had her brain put into a truck.
>>
>>14349060
Didn't FMP go for a Knight Rider ending, shoving AL into a car?
>>
>>14349045
See, Deandrive looked pretty good. Like someone threw together the best parts of ZoE, Linebarrel, and a bit of Eva, and tied the whole thing together with the lighthearted, laid-back tone that made MJP and Buddy Complex fun to watch.

Sure, it may not be the most original idea of the bunch, but it definitely seemed like it was shaping up to be quite entertaining.
>>
>>14349078
Yes. And it was a Trans-Am, for extra reference points.
>>
So the main story and plot twist of RS project has been spoiled since the contest.

Are they going to change the plot or stick to the original plan?

Dean Drive: Creators are college kids (both 19) who coordinated stuff on Twitter. Tomino likes the idea of a pilot with acrophobia but says the PV does not use this to any good effect.

Enthusiast: Tomino hates the characters, saying they 're too pretty for Their ages (main character is 29) and says They ought to be made younger, and 29 shoulderstand be the age of the rivals.

Dead End Sparks: Made by professionals. Can not recall what Tomino said.

RS Project: Creators did not show up, saying They Want people to judge it based on the PV itself. Tomino says it all boils down to whatsthis "other thing" the pilot is Said to lose in the PV; If it's something interesting it might turn out good (spoiler: It's all in the proposal and it's nothing interesting)

Star Storks: Creator's a professional and 52. Tomino hates the concept, saying it's too old, but likes the idea of human ising robots and giving them warmth.
