Why is there no (canon) GM Sniper types after the GM Sniper II? Like why is there no GM III Sniper, or a Jegan Sniper? Seems to still be viable given how much damage Kirks does with a Zaku I Sniper a MS that's older than the main character.

Talk about moving the goalposts. Also you don't know how shields work, do you? You tank the initial attack with it and then counter attack when there's a break in the enemy's fire. The GM's couldn't fire because they didn't want to risk hitting the Nemos. Also Unicorn was a massive feddie wank because they did everything to piss on what Zeon was trying to accomplish and Full Frontal's plans. Also the Sleeves got routinely shit on in the battles that are shown outside of named characters. Yes, because improvements in power output, acceleration, and sensor range and being able to use beam weaponry beyond the spray gun along with the cockpit isn't an upgrade. The beam saber in the Capule is probably melting through it, just rather slowly since there's no force applied besides the weight of the beam saber itself.

I'd say just for the ability to use beam weaponry GM takes the cake. It could probably tank a couple of physical hits from a Graze's gun (although much fewer than other IBO MS due to a lack of nanolaminate armor) but the GM has the learning computer upgrade on top of one-shot one-kill weapons. I'd give it to the GM here but I'd place Grazes above Zakus thanks to the nanolaminate. I think Doms are more than a match for Grazes thanks to their incredible speed and high-powered outfitting and from then on everything beats Grazes. However, the Alaya Shitty/Aligned Vagina system in a Graze would obviously put it on the level of EXAM-users or Newtypes, which comes down to how strong of a Newtype the pilot is. Early Amuro would get stomped thanks to the reaction time but Late OYW Char could probably do some match an AV user.

Which is another thing I disliked about IBO. Since there's no real indication of which mecha are stronger (even Gundams are said to be outmatched in everything except muh dual Ahabs, whatever that means for performance), Mika just curbstomps everything. They wrote it to make all battles 100% dependent upon the pilot but since the MC starts off better than grunts there's basically no resistance in any of his battles. Obviously could have been fixed with good choreography but that boat sunk. I hope S2 is animated better, even if the writing is shittier.

Honestly I think the Graze is a better machine and should win on paper. Its faster, better armoured, more agile, and can deploy an advanced highly sensitive sensor suite to aid long range combat and tactical information gathering, but the GM has one big advantage over the Graze. Beam weapons. That alone probably puts the advantage in the GMs court even though the Graze has overall better performance.

Well the Graze Frame is based directly on the experimental Grimgerdes, Valkyrie Frame, which was design for extreme agility and speed above all else, even at the significant expense of armour and durability. The standard Graze provides the much more adequate armour that would be associated with a main battle mecha, but still retains a notable degree of agility from it predecessors, the Grimgerde. With that information in mind its pretty safe to assume the Graze is the more agile mecha.

For those wondering why the Federation was able to mass produce MS in such numbers was not only because of a difference in resources, but also number of places they can manufacture MS. The Jaburo base was so large that it could not only roll out MS in high numbers, but also make parts that could be used to assemble MS elsewhere. The asteroid base Luna 2 also had it's own manufacturing facilities for making MS. And when California Base was retaken, it had a Zeon MS manufacturing plant in it that was used to make MS like the Zaku Cannon. So they were likely able to use it for rolling out GMs relatively fast. The Federal forces also had numerous other large bases like Torrington that could also be used for said role. They might have even possibly used Odessa Base for that too when it was captured. But all that MS manufacture did come with a price. 0080 was probably the poorest year for the Federation as they'd spent a ton of money on making all those GMs. So they actually drafted captured Zakus of the J and F2 type into Federation service to fill some of the ranks.

Thunderbolt is an alternative UC where the OYW didn't exactly end. Even after A Baoa Qu, half of the entire Zeon army is still actively resisting. In Thunderbolt the South Seas Sect separated from the Federation just after the war. But right before that happened, they were still getting Federation supply. Like the GM Type C. While I don't know if they designed the floatation gear for it so it can skim on water, I do know that the Federal forces wouldn't put Zaku-like shoulder shields on them like the monks did. Also since the leader of the monks Bishop Ravenflute is a powerful Newtype, he started mind controlling a bunch of people from the Federation and Zeon. Which is the likely reason why they can use MS from both sides so well. Unfortunately that has earned them the ire of both the Federation and Zeon Remnants.

Yes the data on GM thrusters is considered a bit iffy since most GMs are said to have better thruster power than the RX-78-2 Gundam. But you also have to take into consideration that the Gundam was a much higher tuned machine than a GM. It could also take a hit better. They didn't really make a GM that equaled the Gundam's original base specs until the release of the GM Custom. Sure MS like the GM Sniper 2 and GM Command were powerful and expensive. But they were also dumbed down in many areas. Many of the high grade MS parts that were in Gundam level MS weren't standardized in the Federation until the second gen of MS.

Also I really don't get how the GM Sniper 2 is supposed to be cheaper than the GM Sniper Custom. The GM Sniper Custom was just modified from the standard GM. It even had the same generator. The GM Sniper 2 however was made using the GM Command as the base machine. And the GM Command was much more expensive than the Vanilla GM. What's more, the GM Sniper 2 was heralded as being the best performing GM of the One Year War. So just how in the hell was it supposed to be the cheaper unit?!

And for those that think the Gundam Head units in Thunderbolt are just a GM with a Gundam head, you're not entirely right. Yes the base body was modified from the GM. But the units clearly had far higher performance as they were equipped with better gear and had tri-thruster backpacks.
