what, it really isnt. It's alittle stiff but it's accurate.
I know people like to say TV-N is filled with kisama-rama-tachi-san but it really hasnt been like that for awhile now.
>>
>>14301604
For TV-N, it's verging on good.

Fuck you, Over-Time blows the FUCK out of your precious weeb subs and they're Jobros instead of circlejerking anti-Ghost Drive loving weebs
>>
>>14301604

Over-Time's are just as bad, just in the other direction. Whereas TVN doesn't take enough liberties with their translation, O-T takes too many.

true.

Overall, I do find that OT's subs are better, but the fact they localize and change names based on official merch (or dont change names based on merch)

it's a little confusing.

They go and call Tokatchi "Tokatti "for some reason, based on just one source of what looked like to be a third-party calendar.
Enough that even wikipedia and the powerrangers wiki think his name is "Tokatti "
Which just sounds like an italian dessert.

But for some reason refused to call Greeeds "Greeeds" even though multiple sources and advertisements call them that.

They try to be contrary sometimes or just flip-flop with their reasons.

Most people tend to eat it up, while is TV-N has one little fuck up, it'll be paraded around as just another example of why they suck.

To be fair, that was years ago. I doubt current OT would go with "Os" and ignore the Greeed spelling again.

>champion's cube
>Tokatti

thats all I can think of other than that "DAKARA" thing they did for Amazon, which I completely forgot what they actually put it as, but I know it wasnt anything close to "dakara!"
>>
>>14302263
>Tokatti
You do know that's the official romanization, right?
>>
>>14302263
Isn't Tokatti based on some official romanization? That's exactly my point. Current OT changed "Alan" to "Alain" once the official romanization popped up and it was clear that they were going with some weird European themed names for the major Ganma (So it wasn't a "Condol" situation).
>>
>>14302282
>>14302312
Like the guy above me mentioned, The Tokatti they were referring too was just one picture and it looked like it was a third party thing.

That being said, again, if they go by official romanization, then it should be OOOs (not Os) and Unkh instead of Ankh.

I'm mostly just saying they cherry pick their reasons.
>>
>>14302325
And, like I said, OOO was years ago. I don't think changing their preferences through many years is an "inconsistency".

Regarding Ankh vs Unkh though - Ankh is an actual word, while "Unkh" isn't. That's closer to Condol vs Condor.

>Crush THE Invaders (also before you bring it up, the va said he THINKS thats what he said, but if you listen to what the brace is saying, there is no THE,)
>Champion Cube
>Full Throttler
>Renaming most of the Foodroids
>EleC

I'm just saying, they have a very odd and off putting things they change for little to no reason.

IDK why people put up with them, I know people will give TV-N shit if they mess up one thing.

Champion cube isn't even what they use. You kinda undercut your criticism when you can't even get your shit straight.

Unless you're saying that they should be using Champion Cube instead of symbol, but they're called 資格 not 四角 which would be square, not cube, anyway.

It's more the fact they use the word Champion I think.

Most people translate it as "King" because that's how it's mostly been translated for the past 600 years.

Anon is just pointing out how contrarian OT likes to be

which they can be. Sometimes I feel like they just do it on purpose and it really does screw up the wikis
>>
>>14303893
thats not a mistranslation per-say?
"-De Gozaru" is just something someone says at the end of a sentence. It has no translation other than to show that:

1. Someone is very polite
2. They know Old Formal Japanese
3. Is a character from the 1700s

I'm not 100% on some stuff as im still learning more and more about the language, but im just sharing my thoughts on how OT does shit.

If you're going full 1:1, yes, there won't be any direct translation. However, since you are aware of how the word is used, then you could alter your translation to convey the same meaning.

I haven't seen how OT handled this (skipped Kyoryu) but, unless that guy is throwing "de gozaru" for fun (such as the stereotypical adding of "nin" to sound like a ninja), that could counts as a negative. Especially with TVN's track record of "Obakasantachi" or "Natsuki-chan's sempaitachi".

Believe it or not, there was a point where /m/ had to rely on tvn before W-time came along.
And the complaints about kisama-tachi were still the same even back than.

After this episode I'm avoiding Hamburgers or Salisbury steaks. Eat salad, fruit, white meat and a little carbo like my doctor says.

>>14304839
To be accurate, at the time, those same people were more buttbleeding over "Kamen" and "henshin" not being english words.
Basically, those people wanted localization; more accessible subs. Probably a movement in-line with spoiling due to toonami localizations.
Then, for anyone remembering the anhk "fuck you" screencap, the localization candidate became known for the random injection of cussing, giving a hype of edge though also taking the original tone of the shows and augmenting it.

/m/ has no idea how lucky it is. Over-Time and TV-Nihon are both good groups with mostly cosmetic flaws.

Watch a few seconds of this. It's Miraculous Ladybug subbed by Tumblr. THIS is what actual bad subs look like.

Kyoryu's 6th is a samurai from the Warring States era. He drops "de gozaru" because he's sufficiently period. Making his English Shakespearean would be accurate, randomly tacking on gobi is not.

>>
>>14302241
If you're gonna be a pedantic asshole about it, it should be "Tokacchi" (from トカッチ). Both of the other spellings you mentioned are equally liberal ways of romanizing it.
>>
>>14308833
It's not a foreign word, retard. It's a Japanese nickname for a Japanese name.
Tokashiki > Tokacchi
Maybe that's a viable mistake before they reveal his real name, but rather believe that any japanese name/nickname would use a sound that's non-existent in the language rather then (yet another) romaji mistake (since toei, bandai, tv-asashi all put out "official" shit n routinely contradict each other) is just dumb as fuck.
Also, people thinking "slow-down" and "heavy gravity" are "official".
>>
>>14308833
If they meant "tokatti" they'd write it. The thing about katakana is the freedom to imitate foreign words. 「トカッタィ」。

「トカッティ」
>>

There's more than one accepted way to romanize Japanese. ち is sometimes rendered as "ti" because it's logically what would be grouped with た ("ta"), て ("te"), と ("to"), and つ ("tsu", which by this pattern would be "tu"). The Japanese language doesn't natively contain the "ti" and "tu" sounds that you know, so traditionally there was no need to differentiate them. This only became necessary with the introduction of foreign words, so you get てぃ and とぅ to represent those sounds in kana while ち and つ become chi and tsu. But both ways are still used; in fact, if you set your keyboard to Japanese and type "ti", you get ち, and same for tu = つ. Rromanization isn't as consistent and rigid with rules as you'd like it to be because the Japanese themselves don't really give a fuck about it.
>>
>>14307638
That would be overlocalization. He's from Warring States Japan, not Victorian England.
>>
>>14309696
You're talking about an old-dated system for transcription. It's like arguing that wade-giles is still valid this many years after it was replaced by the pinyin system.
>>
>>14310356
fuck you, peiking will always be the capital of china.
>>
>>14302241

OT knows that Japan often uses English wrong or just in different ways, and when they translate they usually fix it so that it would make sense to an English speaker. For example, Japan uses the english word "mansion" in everyday conversation, but they use it to mean "apartment".

TV-N will just write things down how they hear it, so they'll just leave "mansion" on screen and don't give a fuck if people are confused that a tiny apartment is considered a "mansion".
>>
>>14301820
You're thinking of how they were when magenta was with them

Stuff like ankh swearing and that disaster with the gobus robot names was all them. After they left OT, OT hasn't done anything close to the try hard of Wärring
