that's not the beauty of it. That's only apart of it. The true beauty lies within the fact they managed to pull it off.

I feel like this show was a perfect storm that can never be duplicated, like Ghostbusters: that is, everything is done just so right that to truly replicate it would go against all statistical plausibility.

This show, and its OVAs, are so unique that to recapture the essence of it with a new show would be fool hardy.

I don't think so. It's only really the premise that's overtly ridiculous. The tone of the show is fairly serious throughout, so once you get used to the how the show works, there's not much laughs to be had. It's kind of the opposite of SDF Macross in that regard.

There's not much of a difference when it comes to tone, though I will say that it although it wasn't outright slapstick, it certainly wasn't the darkest thing in the world either. And that was a bit to its detriment, I think. I would have liked to have seen Basara not get away with something at least once, and Gamlin should have stayed dead.
