The weirdest thing about this game was on the private server I played on, all the ground was flat. I don't know if it was something the server admins had not set up or what. You went out to a flat, unterrained section of land and shot at GMs and Zakus. Or you just ran into an enemy city and got wrecked.

That's cause it was kinda shit. Literally a GM with updated cockpit and minor tweaks, should have been just a GM variant.

I find it funny how the GM's "face" has evolved over the years.

The original GM, with its large visor, looks very cartoony and simplistic when compared to the RX-78.

Then you look at the later GMs and its variants, and they have a narrower visor, and a more "sinister" looking face. Almost angry. And this is before tacking on all the ammo boxes, rocket launchers, shoulder cannons, etc. that turn it into a walking death machine.

God I love the GM.

I always thought classic Jim look more relaxed than worried. Like he's saying "Don't worry bro, if they kill me, ten more will take my place." Then he gives a big thumbs up and spontaneously explodes.

The original GM is one of the very few mooks that looks genuinely cut down and less impressive than the flashy main character mecha.

Its lameness makes it cool, though. Future GMs are more their own entity than just a mass produced budget Gundam and lose that aesthetic. Even stuff like the CE Daggers look more streamlined than the Gundams.

The classic visor is my favourite because upwards facing visors are quite a rarity.

Most visors of the sort face downwards because the downwards angle or mouth-angled visor part make it look "cooler". I can't think of many visors that do it similarly to the original. Perhaps it's this defiance of what's considered classically cool that makes it feel special.

Kind of a bummer that there's not as many pilot custom colored GMs like there are Zakus like the Gabby Hazard, Elliot Lem, Johnny Ridden etc. Origin had Sayla with a pink one, Jack and Adam GMs had just the Emblems. White Dingo had the gray one.

Oh man, this reminds me of something that happened ages ago.

There was this fairly popular Gundam fansite at the time (not Gundam.com or MAHQ, it was the one that had a yellowish background, and I can't for the life of myself remember the name right now). They had a highly informal Gunpla competition, and I submitted my newest creation. I was like 15 at the time, and it was an original MG GM. I'd put a lot of effort into it, but it looked terrible. The paints were flat acrylics that I'd brushed on. They were far too thick, and the brush strokes were very obvious.

The kit was absolute garbage in every way, in hindsight, but at the time I was so devastated when they tore it apart on their site that it's a wonder I wasn't turned off Gunpla for good.

Anyway, anyone remember what that site name was? I kinda want to find it on maybe the wayback machine or something to see if I can find that contest, but I can't even remember the name.
