Easily one of my favorite anime shows of all time. The story telling was wide in scope with enough sub-plots to flush out the world and develop the characters enough for me to care about what was going on. The pacing was on the money so that it felt like each episode mattered in pushing the plot forward, but not so fast that it becomes a convoluted blurry mess.

Also the mechs look cool and the fantasy setting makes Guymelef one of the few mecha that can rock a cape without looking daft.

Funi probably wants to redub it so they don't have to hand the dubbing of the new scenes back off to ocean or wrangle the original voice actors. Or they believe they can produce a far superior dub. Which they can't.

Also, apparently the original director was going to be Yasuhiro Imagawa, aka the G Gundam guy, and it was for 39 episodes. The budget forced Akane to put make the script work in 26 episodes.

The only problem with getting Imagawa is that we'd lose the one thing that makes Escaflowne special; Hitomi. Originally she was supposed to be a relatively bland blonde-haired titty-monster. Akane made her into a more normal girl.

But yeah, imagine if they just gave Imagawa direction over the combat; Escaflowne's fight choreography is already pretty good, and the liquid-metal technology offers a lot of possibilities.

I think Escaflowne would have been better if it was more like Now and Then, Here and There. Hitomi just giving up on wanting to go home without much of a thought was incredibly annoying. Now and Then, Here and There is a far better example of someone being whisked off to another world.

It's nice as a battle BGM but too harsh for my ears when played by itself. I prefer smoother stuff like I described, Escaflowne has great atmosphere thanks in large part to such tracks.

Having rewatched it, I honestly like it more now, despite some heavy flaws still being obvious. Solid 8/10 that could very well gave been a 9 or even a 10.

Apparently, Funimation redubbing it is because the japanese BDs have some episodes being DC editions with aditional footage. Obviously, there's no dub for said footage, so Funi needs to do a new dub so the new scenes can be dubbed

I hate Hitomi as character but i really respect Maaya for being such talented Seiyuu

I really enjoyed the first half of the series, but the second half was fucking shit. Pretty disappointing show, besides the cool as fuck mech designs and fantastic music. All of the characters were really uninteresting, though I did at least enjoy Dilandau even though there wasn't much unique about him either.

No it doesn't, it just goes to show that Dindu is a fun character to watch on screen. He was bored with the other characters (which I can personally see happen if someone doesn't like them initially) while Dilandau's insanity is impossible to be bored by. If the entire cast was like that, the novelty would wear thin in the first episode and he would no longer be fun to watch.

If they really wanted to they could hire the original voice actors to do it, there are only a handful of added scenes and would require very little recording time with them to get it done. But funi being funi probably wants to slap their name all over it and choose the more expensive route to redub it with their own voice actors.
