It literally is, even if some don't like to admit it. Just imagine the Rider getting five times the focus and development as a normal power ranger lead character. Sometimes it still amounts to nothing, sometimes it's good.

It's mostly shit though because they all dress up like bugs (except when they don't, but even then they still do) and have annoying fucking belts that are basically like "what if we took the five-weapons-combine-to-make-a-big-weapon concept and turned it into a power-up or special attack system" except worse because it's never as cool and always makes annoying noises. The only cool move they have is their signature rider kick, which is really all you have to look forward to.

The special effects are really bad. The characters are usually not offensive but still have poorer development than your average 12-episode anime protag. There's always a fucking annoying gimmick that's made to shill shit. The acting, as with all Japanese live action, is garbage. The stories are rarely compelling and /krg/ eats up stupid MUH FEELS or TWEEST plots without question. Humor depends on the series, but it usually relies on chemistry between characters (which in turn relies on the writing) and ranges from awful to decent. The action varies but also ranges from atrocious to mediocre. It always looks more scripted than WWE "wrestling" but without any hook of intensity that can keep you interested. None of these things are really surprising but that's the truth of the matter. If you're expecting anything more then look elsewhere.


/m/ is 99% children's shows but Kamen Rider is probably the worst offender of feeling like it's made for children and nobody else. It doesn't hold itself to what adults would consider professional standards. Again, that's totally okay for an audience of 6-12 year olds but past that there's no reason to watch any Kamen Rider. Anyway I hope this clears things up.

What is it with modern Japan having such a hate boner for Kamen Rider? They never seem to enjoy whatever Toei and Bandai have been doing recently, which has surprisingly been quite a bit throughout the 2010s. No matter what direction they take, Japan dislikes it. The only exception is Gaim, but that's only because of the anime otakus following Urobutcher that the Japanese majority also has a hate boner for. Are they just that close minded?

I have heard somewhere that Japanese artists and content creators that really care about the stuff they make actually jet out of Japan to pursue and audience elsewhere who will enjoy their material without Japanese conformity.

Makes me feel like Toei should strive to do the same for KR. I'd hate to see Kamen Rider go away because Toei aims for a demographic that does not appreciate it anymore. The fickle, nigh puritanical, old people of Japan won't be having that.

I think the main problem is that Haruka is so sickeningly naive, he's no different from your average kid's show hero. His little rant from the last episode made it perfectly clear that he's far too narrow minded for what he's doing.
