If it's anything like GalCiv III or the other Space 4x's that have been released lately, no. They're just so fucking boring. There's no realy meta-plot to play with in the games, it's just KILL EVERYTHING or GRAB RESOURCE AND ASCEND.

At least CKII had the scoreboard and a bunch of crazy random events, plus noble relationships and shit.

I don't know that I'd classify Zeon as spiritual. There have been a few individuals who were within the ranks, like Marida - the faction as a whole never came across as very spiritual to me though.

Europa Universalis IV is easy-modo, though it's really, really boring if you get screwed over by RNG and your tech level is too low to explore.

Crusader Kings II is probably the most popular GSG in the current era, though Hearts of Iron 3 used to be top dog. It's the most casual of them since it's like 80% GSG, 15% RPG, 5% citybuilder, and you have a lot more things you can do with immediate effect than other GSGs.

I know Spore kind of sucked, but the sheer amount of planets in the space stage was great, it made the galaxy feel massive.
Here, it just looks tiny, and you'd be able to, with ease, conquer the entire map in a campaign - which you almost never would have been able to accomplish in Spore. Maybe they're trading map size for game mechanics?

I heard that you can have around 1000 stars, though. Not as impressive as Star Ruler's 10,000 but it's bretty big.
That's too much even for my levels of autism, personally. If it's anything like CK2 it'll be hell managing even half of that, and knowing Paradox there's no way it'll run effectively after 10 years of gameplay.

Autodesk Maya to make new 3D models of ships.
Photoshop to export files in the proper format for new flags.
A text editor to make new lists of names, commanders, planets. fleets, etc.

Every review ever is singing its praises about how cool and individual it is, but the great weakness of 4X games has always always always been a very slow late-game. All the smaller empires have been absorbed or fallen and the game turns to molasses because everyone is too large to effectively do anything, so you end up just chipping away at borders until you have enough mass to snowball a victory.

How involved is that diplomacy and intrigue though? I checked out the diplomacy screens and it looked very simple, like on the level of GalCiv3. Just a bunch of options to trade stuff, have a research agreement or form an alliance. Not even any options for espionage and certainly nothing on the level of CK2.

Don't get me wrong I know it's a Paradox game so good DLC is guaranteed to fix some of these problem, but Paradox fanboys seem to use that as an excuse for everything and ignore the problems that exist now.

It works really well for grand strategy games. If it were turn-based, online multiplayer would be worse than Civilization's. This way, it plays well in multiplayer which is what the game is balanced and designed for.

Modifying this game for /m/-based art sounds like it'll be super-annoying though, never mind the need for 3d models for things like LOGH starships or Gundam ships.
