Deus ex thread

I always wondered how his arm blade even fit inside his frame, I imagine it rolls up like a hose and becomes rigid when needed
>>
>>14208860

Human Revolution was a decent game, but had an atrocious story. I dislike all the conspiracy shit though, so I get the feeling Deus Ex just isn't for me. Even the gameplay, which had a focus on "play your way" was unbalanced, since sneaking around and taking out enemies one at a time was more rewarding than simply mowing them down.

Well it could be Metal Gear Solid too I guess. I don't know, I haven't played any of them bar Revengeance since 2. And that's definitely not describing Revengeance.
>>
>>14208887
DXHR is my favorite Metal Gear game.
>>
I wonder if those eye shade implants ever become infected

I loved this game. It's one of the few cyberpunk settings that I liked. Mostly due to how slick and cool the technology itself was.

I hope Pritchard comes back in Mankind Divided.
>>
>>14208904

Yes. So what? I found 2 to be a decent game but with a horrific approach to story telling and atrociously overlong and boring movie sequences. The final one in the game being two blokes walking down the road taking half an hour to say "kids are the future" being the last straw for me. If you enjoy it, more power to you, I'm done with them though. I only played Revengeance because it wasn't made by the same crowd, had a notably different gimmick and was on sale.

MGR had the best Metal Gear villain of all time.
>>
>>14208881
Personally I hated the energy system. I couldn't really use melee as much as I wanted and cloaking was useless as well since it drains the batteries in a few seconds. And only way to restore more that the first cell was to chug snacks. For me it broke the flow of the kind of gameplay I was expecting.
>>
>>14208917
You should also go for the Game Boy Color MGS, since that one is decent and is in an entirely different continuity that doesn't rely on weird gameplay like Ac!d did.

Also, Snake's Revenge is hilarious at times, if nothing else.
>>
I liked the Ac!d games for different reasons. The first one was conceptually cannon ( meaning the designs for characters and Mechs was more or less based on the style of the Graphics from Metal Gear Solid 2) and I like the sequel because it was totally different and they went in a unique Direction on their design of a metal gear

It never fails, every deus ex thread turns into a metal gear thread

They regen to at least two pips in director's cut.

But then again director's cut has some weird bugginess to it at times.

>>14208917
2 is admittedly a joke at the player's expense, shamelessly recycling the events of Solid and not really feeling good as a sequel (the fight with Solidus is fun though).

Post modernism is not fun to play through.

The director's cut also seems like a huge "Fuck you, you bought the inferior version. Now buy the game again for some added features that should've been there from the start or at least patched in".
>>
>>14209080

I don't even remember noticing the similarities to MGS1 to be honest, though I'd hardly remember that know. I just thought the final video and lengthy cutscenes were dull.
>>
I hope Mankind Divided shows the technological backtracking that apparently happened between games. The reversion back to paper in particular.

>>14208944
I liked it, it made you think harder about where to utilize your special abilities. I'm sort of worried that they''ll do away with energy constraints in the new one, running around activating stealth, tank mode, and arm swords willy nilly might make it too easy.
>>
>>14209119
I hope it explains why something like 30% of the fucking people you see have a medical prosthetic.

I get that there's dudes who are probably sawing off limbs so they can get sweet military arms and do crimes, but then they go and show the cops and normal people hassling little old ladies with robo-eyes and robo-hips. But there's SO FUCKING MANY OF THEM with these prosthetics. What the fuck happened to de-limb so many people? There aren't that many cripples in reality. Was there a rash of terrorists bombings just before this, or did super-polio make the rounds again?
>>
>>14209080
>They regen to at least two pips in director's cut.
I think it also regenerated in the original version since it was the only one I played and it wasn't that much trouble going around and using your abilitiesto do a asbolute non-lethal run

I'm not saying that energy consuming abilities should be spammed. Just that having to store and eat snacks to use the abilities like trailers advertize just breaks the flow and makes me not want to use them if I'm running low on snacks. Maybe a single large energy bar that recharges slowly would let you use abilites more freely while still making you think how to use your energy so you don't run out if shit happens.

>>
>>14209174
Well, If I recall, you could use up most of an energy bar, then stop the ability, and the energy bar would recharge.
>>
>>14209157
But half the cyber-cripples we see are young folks.
Now how the fuck do we have so many technophones and protests when a third of the population already has robo-limbs and the other two-thirds has the first group as their family and friends?
>>
>>14209230
Maybe its a class thing. All the amputees are low income war veterans and the middle and upper classes don't have family that's augmented.
>>
>>14209243
Something had to happen to the lower class to make so fucking many of them augmented. Are they leaving out the part of the lore where President Trump's drones flew around taking baseball bats to everyone caught dressing poorly or being slightly brown?
>>
>>14209230
Probably all the people forced, or convinced to augment themselves. The military for example augmented wounded vets, one of whom was a character in DE:HR. A lot of companies also pressured employees into augmenting.

Your appointment to FEMA should be finalized within the week. I've already discussed the matter with the Senator.
>>
>>14209227
Sorta. The semi-regeneration mechanics for energy in conjunction with how pretty much zero abilities actually consume an entire bar (just most of one) means that as long as you don't decide to spam moves back to back you can in fact break even on energy.

But why would you do that when pretty much every one of Jensen's takedown animations is fucking amazing? You'll find yourself running up to people just to punch them in the face or give them the face twister.

Man I love the face twister. If only I could replace every nonlethal animation with the face twister.
>>
>>14209265
I went out of my way to find weak walls just to do that badass wall punch from the trailers.

>>
>>14209253
Yeah an augmented worker is likely to get a job sooner than an un augmented one because of productivity. So low class person will feel pressured to get them in order to work.
>>
>>14209284
And then they're on Neuropozyne for life.

It's the perfect scam.
>>
>>14209302
Yeah. But wouldn't this scam be illegal in Western countries? I can see it happening in China but not in the US.
>>
>>14209310
Really?I could absolutely see it happening in the US. What's anyone going to do? Companies could just lobby congress to look the other way or rush through some bill supporting it and that would be that.
>>
>>14209310
Yeah, but Illuminati/MJ12/etc.
>>
>>14208900

>>
>>14208944
The game is 300% better if you run a CheatEngine script to fill 0.01% of your next battery after the previous one fills, that way all of your batteries will regen.

I still wish they just had regular goddamn melee weapons but that way you only really need to shove energy bars in your face if you need to do a lot of shit at once, and it makes it actually worth getting extra batteries.

I think the neuropozyne issue is worse since for a chunk of its market it results in "literally cannot afford to hold a job."

It's remeniscent of indentured servitude, your salary goes to pay for the cost of earning that salary in a negative feedback loop of debt.

Deus Ex is pretty much 'Every conspiracy is true, at least to some degree: the game'. in its universe, so if you don't like conspiracy theories then I can see you being put off.

That said, HR is just not as good as the original game in terms of pretty much everything. Yes, the original came out in 2000 so the graphics aren't modern, but still.
>>
>>14211520
I like the gameplay way more in HR.

Gotta use antimicrobial compounds, son. Add some sort of disinfection system whenever the shades are withdrawn and you're golden.
>>14209284
Didn't someone use this line to get out of paying a cut to the Triads? It's pretty sensible too, since you can get some discreet augs for sensory/brain performance.
>>14210206
Not that guy, but I need some examples just to be more aware of these things. I also see this kind of thing coming with the 'Internet of Things'.
>put chips and wi-fi on everything
>need an internet connection to use a thermostat or just switch on the fucking lights
>company might just go bust one day and all your shit stops working
>>
>>14211561
As do I, which is fairly odd because I did actually play the original Deus Ex first like a year after it came out.

I always find myself returning to HR for some reason, I just wish I got the special edition to get New Game+, I hope the next one has that as a standard feature.

DX has a lot of quirks to it that scream "we haven't really figured out the right balance between RPG and FPS." Writing's great from what I remember, though, but playing through the game itself sometimes feels like an exercise in torture.

Personally I thought System Shock 2 nailed the balance better, but then again System Shock 2 also had a lot of garbage to it in places.

451s are a weird subset of games. Trying to find that balance of game and narrative that works effectively, I think that for the most part they've gotten better as time went on, so long as they avoided any post-modern quirks.

Like, they strive for a sort of simulation experience (SysShock1 is like the DCS of 451s with the amount of interface clutter going on), but a lot of times I think they're improved by being more rigid and gamey. X does Y, A handles B, this solves that... don't put so much effort in crafting an experience full of verisimilitude that you forget to make playing through it fun for the end user.

You could craft the most captivating campaign of a pen and paper RPG ever and it would mean nothing if the rules for playing it are jank. And honestly, DX's rules of play have a bit of jank to them.

That said, I vastly prefer DX's grenade-mine hybrids over HR's "you either have the grenade, or you mix it with a mine template for the corresponding mine" approach.
