OG version of Bian was an idiot, and his plan worked only because SRW runs on RPG logic where manpower of nations doesn't matter but the main characters' levels and upgrades do.

That's more of an RPG cliche than a super robot anime one though. And one that blurs IC and OOC lines to that.

To give a concrete example, in Gunbuster we know the space monsters are coming and Noriko spends that time training. But by RPG standards she didn't score any kills on bad guys so she'd lose. She'd need to fight some human separatists or a lesser, not as dangerous alien threat first.

The Professor (yes, that's his only name) from the Ape Escape series is up there. The guy develops things like lightsaber swords, superpowered spring boxing gloves and even tanks and a freakin' giant robot, all to help you capture rogue monkeys.
