In my case, Wing and Seed made me stay away from the franchise (mecha in general perhaps) until 2010. when I first played this

The plot looked "surprisingly" interesting, so I went back and watched UC. And now I'm here, watched all Mazingers, Getters, Tomino shows etc.

Gundam Wing got me interested in it, then I watched Mobile Suit Gundam on cartoon network and fell in love with it. In fact, it was probably the Guncannon that really defined my love for Gundam as a kid. I thought it was the coolest thing.

Wing in the 90's, still love it for its insanity.

Bought Gundam Battle Assault when it came out in the U.S. and was fucking hooked by all the mecha it featured. I was entirely confused as a child with no access to the internet, much less with the convoluted story line that the game made up.

Eventually, Toonami showed 0079 and it was all history from there.

Similar case here though I really liked Wing and consider 00 to be my favorite. It was easy to digest and the story is compact. Went to watch SEED/Destiny and got burned. Enjoyed Stargazer though.

Before diving into UC I was playing DW:Gundam 2 a whole lot too. Had like 500 hours into it. I couldn't be bothered with 3 and Reborn after that.

With all that said however I don't consider myself a huge Gundam fan, or at least not a proper one. I like the designs sure but I mostly consider Gundams to be disposable war-machines and not the "extensions of your body and soul" or whatever the fuck. Also I don't collect and build models nor did I watch Gundam Build Fighters. Those are just toys fighting, what's the point? My friend said I'm missing the point of it all.

I always wanted to see Wing, but it never seemed to be on when I was watching TV. So when I got into anime I started looking for it, found it, thought "Gundamnium? That's way too stupid, that can't be it." And kept looking. I remembered a bit I'd seen where someone mentioned a 'Gundam 0', and accidently found the recently aired 00. I realised pretty quick that it wasn't the right one, but I was enjoying it enough to keep watching anyway. And that was that.

Gundam Assault Survive.
I'd been playing Macross Ultimate Frontier for a couple of years (Macross fan from WAY back) and then Macross Triangle Frontier.
When I heard that Gundam Battle Universe and Gundam Assault Survive used the same game engine, I downloaded the newer of the two and basically just thought of it as new missions for the same game. As I'd really liked the way that MTF/MUF walked through the story of the entire franchise, I thought that GAS would be a good basic introduction to Gundam in the form of a game I already liked.
At this point, I should add, I thought that all Gundam was scream-what-you're-doing super robot stuff because of an inaccurate memory from high school. Somebody showed me an episode of some anime where the giant robot had a little dojo room inside it where the "pilot" did martial arts and the robot copied what he did and I thought it was incredibly stupid. No, it wasn't G-Gundam, the guy was in a traditional white karate gi in a bamboo-and-paper room inside the robot and this was like three years before G-Gundam was made. No idea what it actually was, but that's irrelevant.

So I came to /m/ and said that I liked old Macross but not song energy and pentagram lasers and asked what the least "scream-what-you're-doing" entry in Gundam was, and I was told to watch 0080: War In The Pocket.

Actually, 0080 started my obsession with Zaku. After watching 0080 I watched 00, and between Bernie, Louise, and the Flag Fighters I was thinking of Gundams as terrible cursed weapons that should not exist. It wasn't until I watched G-Gundam that I really went all FUCK YEAH, GUNDAMS!

Then I gave Mobile Suit Gundam a chance, and that completely blew everything out of the water, even wrecking my long-time appreciation of Super Dimension Fortress Macross when I saw how much of what I liked about Macross had been done earlier and much better by Gundam.
>>
When I was a kid, I really liked watching G Gundam on Toonami, but it didn't really go past that.

In college I made friends with a guy that made gunpla models which got me interested in the series again. Started watching from 0079 and watched about 7 or 8 series over the course of like 2 months.
>>
>>14203762
>Those are just toys fighting, what's the point?
They've always been "just cartoons fighting". The fights in GBF were pretty bad-ass. The best part of GBF was seeing a bunch of obscure MSV's finally get animated, plus the fact that the premise made the "1-3 fights per episode" feel perfectly natural. It's all about the mechaporn, not the story.

The story was cute, and the characters were likeable, but it wasn't even trying to be any kind of engaging drama, just the framework for a bunch of really kick-ass fights.
>>
Watched wing when I was in high school. Cool cartoon about robots in space triggered something. Few years later I discovered anime. Watched wing/Seed/Destiny when I had my finals. Snowballed from there

I can't take it seriously because they're toys. Feels like Bay Blade. I need proper cockpits, war, death and internal conflicts to appreciate the mecha porn, screw plastic. I didn't watch G Gundam either because it's Super Robot.

I like Rinko though.

I vaguely remember watching bits and pieces of Wing, but the original series when it was airing on Toonami is what sparked my interest. That and the MSIA line that came out in stores at the same time. I had to buy the rest of the series on VHS so I could see it to the end.

From there it was 08th MS Team, 0080 recordings from late night airings, Char's Counterattack and 0083 on Saturdays when those series came out along with MSG: Federation vs Zeon & Zeonic Front. Watched G too, although it felt like they only showed it because DBZ had been such a homerun. For whatever reason, that made me resent it for years.

SEED too when that came on, but even then Kira felt like a crappier version of Amuro. I kind of fell off the Gundam train for a few years while my interests shifted from robots to cute jr high school girls and GTA. I got back into it in 2010 when I found /m/ but everything I remembered fit like a glove. I've been on /m/ ever since.

When I was 7, I had a cheat magazine that included a strategy guide for the Federation campaign in Federation vs Zeon, and had a page showing all of the mobile suits.
When I was 17, I was downloading Dreamcast ISOs and I discovered that same game, and decided to give it a try.
When I was 18, I was modding my PSP, and I found Gundam Battle Universe. I decided to try it since I liked FvZ, and I got a completed save off of Gamefaqs so I could just free battle in it.
When I was 19, I decided to actually try playing the campaign, which made me interested in watching one of the shows. I went with 08th MS Team because I loved using the Ground-type Gundam the most in GBU. Then a week later, I saw a video that was all of the EXVS intros. That was when I decided to watch all of it, and I started going fucking crazy about Gundam soon after.

I'm seeing a lot of Wing mentions, I'm the same.

Years ago in high school I saw bits and pieces of Gundam Wing on Toonami UK, and got a buddy to burn me a copy of Endless Waltz. That kind of kicked off anime since then as I've watched dribs and drabs of other things.

It's only since last year I got into Gundam as I randomly came across a "Top 5 Gundam Battles" Youtube video which was pretty awesome.

So I watched 08th MS Team, then 0083, then 0080, then really fucking begrudgingly got through 0079, Origins, Thunderbolt, a few episodes of G Fighter, and half watched about half of Zeta.

I always enjoyed mecha since i was a little kid thanks to KI in the snes(fulgore the best),dexter's lab, transformers and later on zoids and medabots. Evangelion was being aired back in highschool but dropped it right away.

What got me into gundam was playing a bunch of mech related games in highschool, the one with most impact being gundam vs next +. The Zeta was so awesome(i was "newtyping" my friends with hard reads so often they stopped playing the game) i had to watch from where it was from and then it snowballed into watching most of UC, followed by wing and G. Tried watching SEED but i couldnt handle it being so dull that i dropped it at episode 12, didnt even bother with destiny. Still have to watch turn A,00,victory and a few others.

One of the older kids in my neighbourhood was into Gundam and he'd talked about Wing and SEED with me because I'm the only one who watchs anime seriously.

Years later, I found out about 00 in one of the local anime mag. Then I watched it and everything snowballed from there.

At first I thought Exia was kinda ugly, but after watching a lot of Gundam it's actually really sexy.

Definitely Gundam Wing.

My gunpla fascination began elsewhere though.
My uncle had a Perfect Grade RX-78-2 in his room. It was really cool.
