Honest question, why don't they throw the dub on Toonami? This is coming from someone who didn't grow up watching Gundam on Toonami back in the day.

This is the most Gundam commercial of all the Gundams. I'm not saying Toonami is the best place to air anime these days, but in terms of target audience and appeal on the base level, this seems like a good way to promote Gundam in general.

Think about it, Toonami would get viewers because Wing nostalgia. Commercials for it could put more emphasis on Wing Fenice. Sunrise/Bandai would get more people in the west interested in Gunpla and Gundam in general

Seems like a win-win to me.

Might not be the best idea. I mean, yeah, it seems like it's banking on nostalgia, which should be a sound move...but he's a side character, not the leads.
So if you play up Fenice in the promos you'll get newcomers tuning in for a nostalgia fix wondering where Wing is and who the Hell this kid with this other Gundam is since this wasn't what the ads seemed to be promising.

Well, they do work due to various reasons:

-The Pokémon anime doesn't blatantly promote the game, toys, or card game.
-Yugioh doesn't use the actual cards being sold since they're altered, and there's rarely talk of buying cards in general (the few times they did, there was no talk of specific boosters, or starter/structure decks).
-Beyblade never has them buying the actual tops in stores.

Build Fighters is fucked since they sell the actual models. I mean, it can work if they rework the model art so it doesn't reflect existing kits, edit out text, remove references to existing model lines, but it would still be a lot of work.

IIRC there is some law in the US that prevents you from featuring actual literally for sale toys in the show itself and featuring kids playing with them. That was the reason behind a lot of the edits to the cards in yugioh, the pokedexs in pokemon, etc.

Toonami may be able to get around this due to being a late night block though.

Actually, that's the sort of regulation that was thrown out by the Reagan Administration which is why you saw a flood of licenced character cartoon shows in the 80s.

Of course this lead to the Children's Television Act of 1990 where it was mandated that networks air at least 3 hours of programing that was deemed to be educational. And the characters themselves cannot be used as spokesmen for the products in commercials during or following the show. As for in-show advertisement, the only regulations I see focus more on Internet website addresses put in shows.

The big thing that puts Build Fighter in the clear is that the FCC's regulations only affect shows meant for children ages 12 and under.


So yes, theoretically, if Turner Broadcast bought the rights to air Build Fighter and aired it during the Adult Swim block, they wouldn't be beholden to the CTA.

There is a disclaimer for television networks not wanting old material particularly if it was streamed first on youtube or netflix. Build fighters is freely available on youtube. Tv networks will not touch it with a 10 foot pole.

This is why IBO is not on youtube for the u.s., so that it has the potential to be broadcast in the future if they choose to do so.
