What even was the special power behind the Shining Finger? I don't get why it was such an effective attack. If simply grabbing and squeezing part of an opponents body was so amazingly OP, then Argo should've gone undefeated.

Presumably it's channeling lots and lots of power into the enemy suit, frying them, generating lots of electrical interference, and generally slagging the other suit just by being hot. Y'know, "heat end", also metal kung fu probably has something to do with it. You do sometimes see scenes where the Shining Finger is shutting down and the hand that used it is visibly steaming, as well as both venting more exhaust and retracting to hide the outputs that seem to be in the Shining/God Gundams' finger joints.

Realistically, who cares? It's robot wuxia.

The best fight was obviously Domon's last fight with Master Asia, but your friend wouldn't get that one anyway because it requires viewing all the preceding episodes to fully appreciate it.

If you want to convince him, though, pretty much any of the non-plot related episodes will do. G Gundam had a lot better episodic storytelling than most shows.
