Democracy was a mistake
>>
>>14155711
Yang Wen-li died for democracy! And then Reinhard took over that shit...and then left it up in the air because his goal to rule everything was done and he didn't care too much past that.
Charismatic leaders are bad at their jobs once they have their egos sated.
>>
>>14155711
How is absolute democracy still relevant? Its flaws were noted and political systems refined centuries ago.
>>
>>14155970
>How is absolute democracy still relevant?

And you are asking this during the time people are asking why electoral college still exist in United States?
>>
>>14156027
This. Gerrymandering. Representation that drops their platform once elected. There are issues.
>>
>>14156027
Thank goodness the people who think the electoral college should be abolished don't have that much say.
>>
>>14155732
Wasn't Yang more an anarchist ?
>>
>>14156077
I thought he was a vegetarian?
>>

>>
>>14156095

>>
>>14156089
>>14156095
Jokes aside considering his comments like "humans don't countries but societies to survive",
his outlook was definitely anarchist but then in action he always acted as a servant to the democratic state.
>>
>>14155711
By democracy you mean once in 4-5 years you got to choose your "representative" while rest of time they do whatever they fuck as told by lobbyist or the pandering polices while not giving a fuck about you (specially worse in third world where local satrap by virtue of money-muscle-power/influence gets elected), then yes it was a mistake.

Infact humanity can never govern itself. It always needed someone to look and monitor him from the above.
As long as one is getting basic amenities,no one gives a damm. That's the default nature of masses due to basic survival instincts .

Either humanity needs to grow up from it's faulty biological design into perfection or straight itself on a path under a benevolent Mecha God.
Otherwise on it's weight of stagnation, humanity will soon die as part and parcel of this apathetic universe.

Good point anon, maybe dropping asteroids on the earth will help us achieve your noble goal.
>>
>>14156214
Considering what earth turned into and finally forced humanity to take it's colony to the stars,he was right at the end.
>>
>>14156214
>maybe dropping asteroids on the earth will help us achieve your noble goal.

it did.remember it was the asteroids not getter rays that allowed human to have a chance to rule over earth.

Hmm...so we need powers of asteroids to power our own getter robo.

Modern parliamentary democracy suits the needs of business. And that's great

>>14156100
Recognizing the necessary inherent evil of a stable government doesn't mean you are an anarchist, it just means you aren't blinded by its flaws.

This. Elections by popular vote would just descend the country into mob rule and eventual suicide.

Yeah democracy sucks, have you got an alternative? Not every absolute leader is going to be a perfect example of the philosopher king like Marcus Aurelius was.
>>
>>14160641
>Elections by popular vote would just descend the country into mob rule

This is only a problem is the people are a problem. An educated and enlightened society is not threatened by pure democracy.
>>
They never really explain how the federation government even works and how much of a fair shake spacenoids get or don't get.
>>
>>14160800
You can see that spacenoids can't vote and can't choose the cylinder mayor. The colonial governors are put on their places by vice-premier, who actually cares about his own well-being than the interests of spacenoids. The exception may be Moon cities.
>>
>>14160790
Dictatorship of the proletariat
>>
>>14160798
Good luck on that one, it goes against literally everything humans are. Not that humanity is bad, but it is impossible for a society to be totally enlightened like that.
>>
>>14160800
If anything, just from the main shows themselves, the EF system seems to be some EU like system, each colony vote for their leaders in their colonies, with the commissioner to the overall Earth Federation council (not elected or elected) making decision for overall colonies.
It got to be this for the whole "absolute democracy" and "colonies are being muted" things to exist at the same time.
For example just look at the US congress approval rate
>>
>>14160839
>it goes against literally everything humans are.

The mark of an educated man is the suppression of undesireable qualities in favor of better ones.
>>
>>14160988

I think the colony representatives are appointed by earth officials, not voted in by colonists

>>14161008

The democracy is a sham, the earth elite overrule any parliamentary system. It's an oligarchy disguised as democracy.
>>
>>14161014

No it's a farce. A sham is a celebrity marriage.
>>
>>14161014
The problem with this line of thought is that in the main series, nothing is shown of this.
If anything, the elites that lived on Earth don't seem to mind that much of Earth getting trashed all the time (Dublin- ZZ, Tibet- CCA) even though they lived on it.

I am not sure really sure the whole Earth elites oppression thing is a real oppression or it is something more akin US's "muh state right!" or the "evil Fed!"- a difference of mindset between ruled and the rulers X100 because of the distance and communication difficulty.
>>
>>14161026
>I am not sure really sure the whole Earth elites oppression thing is a real oppression

You're forgetting that the Titans leadership was made up of earth elite military.
>>
>>14161027
But the titan is not the EF government.

Titan is more akin to NSA/CIA went more or less rogue in the middle east.
The second the funding was cut, they are extremely weaken as the main EFSF is not longer supporting them any more.
>>
>>14161039
>But the titan is not the EF government.
After a certain point they were
>>
EF was mostly about it's higher-ups maintaining their status quo at the end of the day, just like any third world parliamentary government.
Except EF was the world government of that scale and kind
>>
>>14161026
They didn't mind because it was convenient for them. The whole point of zz and Dublin was to shoe the top brass didn't give a shit about the people so long as they secured their own future. They thought neo zeon was too strong/not worth fighting so they let Hanan do her thing and reduce the number of mouths to feed.

I'm happy to live in a country without electoral college and gerrymandering nearly unheard off.

At least when we elect the liberal manservant of the 1% or a nearly incompetent socialist we do it with out own vote and 50% of abstention. Next time I think we will elect a dangerous christofascist to change a little.

I don't think any UC shows showed how exactly the EF government works. Blex Forer is probably a spacenoid and he gets a seat in the EF parliament, so it doesn't rule out colonies electing their representative.

JC Denton: I don't see anything amusing about spying on people.
Morpheus: Human beings feel pleasure when they are watched. I have recorded their smiles as I tell them who they are.
JC Denton: Some people just don't understand the dangers of indiscriminate surveillance.
Morpheus: The need to be observed and understood was once satisfied by God. Now we can implement the same functionality with data-mining algorithms.
JC Denton: Electronic surveillance hardly inspires reverence. Perhaps fear and obedience, but not reverence.
Morpheus:God and the gods were apparitions of observation, judgement and punishment. Other sentiments towards them were secondary.
JC Denton: No one will ever worship a software entity peering at them through a camera.
Morpheus: The human organism always worships. First, it was the gods, then it was fame (the observation and judgement of others), next it will be self-aware systems you have built to realize truly omnipresent observation and judgment.
JC Denton: You underestimate humankind's love of freedom.
Morpheus: The individual desires judgment. Without that desire, the cohesion of groups is impossible, and so is civilization.
