I hate those. I go for a legitimate abridged version, but what I get are people using the material to tell jokes and what ultimately not giving a coherent summary of what happens at all.

It's just crappy writing. Three of the five Gundam pilots are insociable edgelords while Relena comes off as a rather loopy, borderline stalker with an inexplicable lady boner and for Heero. Also, dialogue amongst most the characters can get rather preachy and pretentious on several occasions and at some points it isn't congruent with the motives of the character or the context of the situation. It's as if the writers chose to give the character a soap box, make a poignant rationale, then go back to playing their part in the plot. It just makes all their talking points feel like they were said in vain -- especially for Trieze and Zechs.

It's like the writing crew had no idea how humans actually act towards one another. But, hey...It's not like anybody ever said anime writers were good at what they do.

Everything in Wing is played very straight, which one would think would be funny, but it stops being funny after 30 episodes of it.

If you want an abridged version of Wing, watch the episodes up until Heero blows up the Wing Gundam, then watch the scene where Heero sees and receives Epyon, then watch the episodes after White Fang is introduced.

You'll miss minor shit like Quatre going apeshit, but it's irrelevant to the plot at large.

This. I started watching Wing for the first time (somehow missed it when it originally aired; probably for the best.) with a buddy recently. The first 4 eps were hell to trudge through, but it's at least picked up to the point where it's not painful to watch anymore. But my god, the dialogue is so fucking bad sometimes.
