It's like almost any other anime. Nagai's Cutey Honey's catchphrase is from Cyborg 009, Master-sensei-sir-your-majesty Tomino's Reconguista Mask is taken from some old anime just like Eva's face, etc., etc.
>>
>>14153460
>Nagai's Cutey Honey's catchphrase is from Cyborg 009
Even then, it actually came from a live-action movie series called Tarao Bannai (which got a manga adaptation from Ishinomori in the late 70s).

Why do people assume that being unable to escape the influences that shaped you is a bad thing?

Spielberg is exactly the same way with golden age hollywood.

And JJ Abrams is exactly the same way with Spielberg.

There was not an ounce of originality in Pacific Rim, yet I'm fairly certain we can all agree it was the best /m/ anything of the last 16 years.

There's literally nothing original left, not in the west and not in Japan. Everyone just recycled the culture they grew up in.

It's an 8/10.

You watch it after having read Devilman and Childhood's End, watched Ideon, Ultraman and Space Odyssey.

It's a 10/10.

What do you mean? You see where it's influences came from and how they integrated some elements of their work into their own and often improved on them. It's like how reading classical literature will help you admire modernist and post-modern works.

How's FF7 influenced by Eva? Wasn't it being written since the early 90's?

>>14154095
No.
>>
>>14154974
If anything, FF7 itself influenced a bunch of JRPGs that tried to imitate it (what those specific games are, I have no clue about).
>>
>>14154381
I'd provide an argument if I had an argument to respond to. You just used the phrases "bullshit" and "blatant lie" without backing anything up, you didn't even attempt to.

>>14155166
Me wanted me daily (you), yes, exactly.
>>
>>14153612
>Because it makes you unoriginal.
Being influenced by something doesn't make it unoriginal, every creator has inspirations. Eva is not a copy of Ultraman or Devilman, none of those give the same experience as NGE.

Not to mention only the lower half of that pic has some sense. I mean Devilman hardly invented people being shocked by others being killed or someone gettins spiked. It also didn't invent cherubim wings. The Adams-Ultrman connection is pretty forced as well. All the angels in NGE have cores at the middle of their chests. And suprisingly, Ultraman didn't invent eyes either.

>>
>>14153452
Why do you retards think that it's some big secret that Eva references and homages fucking everything?
>>
>>14155640
Because westerns believe they're special snowflakes and not the result of an accumulation of information through thousands of years.
>>
>>14153612
>Because it makes you unoriginal.

Just like Tarantino, right?
>>
>>14155640
Because Devilman was a purely original work of art. It had no influences at all. I mean, I mean even the bible ripped off of it with all the talk of Devils, Satan and God.
>>
>>14155656

Something I like about the nips is how enthusiastic they're about discussing about their influences while western authors feel embarrassed to admit they took ideas from other sources, mainly stuff they liked when they were kids
>>
>>14155680
Please don't embarrass yourself weeb
>>
>>14155680
>western authors feel embarrassed to admit they took ideas from other source
I haven't really seen this. Off the top of my head, two authors I've read introductions/forwards/whatevers by recently have been Moorcock, who talks quite a bit about how he got his start as a student editing a fanzine composed almost entirely of Tolkien rip-offs, then became better as an author by reading Morris and Dunsany (I may be confusing another author here), and Wolfe, who wrote the intro to the New Sun stuff on how much he loved Gormenghast as a child (and another where he talked a bit about Proust). Personally, I've discovered many authors simply because other authors I knew recommended them.

Perhaps we've looked at different western authors, though. There is certainly a stereotypical European/American author figure who discounts everything as rubbish except his own work, but I normally think of that stereotype as writing books of the sort I don't care for.
>>
>>14155680
Lucas, Tarantino and the Wachowskies are all open about their inspirations. Not to mention lots of western directors adapt books so those are obviously inspired.
>>
>>14155765
>but I normally think of that stereotype as writing books of the sort I don't care for
That wouldn't make them any less prevalent, now would it?

>>14155801
>Not to mention lots of western directors adapt books so those are obviously inspired.
