I love the Zeta series of mobile suits. They look nice. The waverider looks funny because the original zeta is colorful, though. IMO the mass produced zeta plus looks better with the waverider.

Even though Arios has a simple, fast, and effective transformation, it has flaws. Simply, look at it from below.

The problem lies in the focus of the design.

Macross sets the focus on the plane form, cuts it up, and makes a robot out of it. The plane form will always look good, BUT the robot form will look frail and/or misproportioned.

Gundam sets the focus on the robot form, cuts it up, and makes a plane out of it. The robot form will have better proportions and a more sturdy appearance, BUT the bulkier parts will cause all hell with the plane form.

The Asshimar looks like a flying joystick. It's beyond ridiculous. In my view transformable Gundams should be banned from existence.
There is no in universe rationale to have mobile suits transform like fucking Transformers.
It's even worse when you see them transform in space. Why ? It' doesn't make them go faster, it doesn't make them more agile (mobile suits already have that inertia redistributing thing that guarantees extreme mobility) and they have verniers. So what the fuck does changing into a wannabee airplane gets you ? It just screem Macross me too.

Micross transformations are supposed to look like a real jet fighter. Gundam transformations are more like form changes from MS to MA modes.
Waverider mode is fast, a harder target to hit due to shape, and can perform re entry unassisted, but not as versatile in combat. So it does its job and looks pretty dope if you ask me. Nothing like a jet, though this is not the point.

Here's an actual question I have, why did the transformable mobile suit idea die out in UC? The Zeta and ZZ were obviously very expensive to make, but they were also extremely effective and worth more in a fight than a full complement of Jegans or heaven forbid, the fucking ReGZs. Could the Federation just not be bothered to invest in a smaller but vastly more effective fighting force?

both virsago and epyon were okawara designs though, and look it

both have claws on their hands and have similarly shaped chest vents, even the same head and vfin locations, same shoulder shape (though visargo is more boxy) and same foot shape. Master gundam is far LESS like epyon, and you have a huge number of wing episodes between the end of G and when epyon shows up. Wing ends and X starts up and it's like "woah who is this knockoff guy" right away.

visargo has extendo-arms and a chest cannon. looks like a freaky spider monster. Epyon is a melee monster with zero ranged weapons and its has the Dragon motif to it. Master Gundam is Master gundam

Epyon's colors, Shenlong's dragon fangs, Heavyarm's open chest mode.

Design trans forming mecha is really hard I guess. The trans formations a a lot smoother in Macross, but VF all look pretty similar similar to one another and they all have more or less the same transformation process. In gandam trans forming MS are more varied, mbut most of the don't work any where near as well as Macross's desgins.

They just remind me of one another. Both were transforming grunts that had much higher performance their roles in their respective shows demanded and had a similar(ish) colour scheme. I wouldn't have even noticed BABI if it wasn't such a fun unit in OMNI vs Zaft II. It's like an upgraded Ginn that transformed into an A-10 like attacker.

It made a hell of an introduction, it's huge, could man handle a gundam in CQC, out maneuver them as well, has sustained atmospheric flight (spec page says it's the first, but I doubt it), Dom head, and can integrate constantly transforming into it's high maneuver style. It's actually a mobile armor, so not a MS or Gundam.

It's really a testament to Buran and the Asshimar that, after multiple battles against Quattro's Hyaku Shiki and Kamille's Mk II, they only went down thanks to motherfucking Amuro Ray in a Gamma Gundam. And there's no shame at all in losing to him.
