No, you misread that line. "There's talk in the Federation that all members of the newtype corps are kid soldiers" is a reference to the White Base and crew, who are officially listed in Federation records as being part of the "13th autonomous corps" and nicknamed the "newtype corps" by the troops because they survived miraculous odds against tough enemies, despite being young and relatively lacking in official training and experience.

As far as I know, the name "13th autonomous corps" and nickname "newtype corps" only comes up in side material such as manga, the MSG novels, MSV, and databooks, and is never referenced in animation. There's the MSG novel page scan that mentions the White base being assigned to the 13th autonomous, and a few other scraps here and there.

I found the source for it. Way back in 1981, Gundam Century was the main databook for MSG and it said the White Base and crew became known as the Federation's "newtype corps".

Now the databook is no longer an authoratative source and some other newtype corps have popped up since then like Kycilia's newtype corps and Glemmy's newtype corps that are better associated with the term.

To me, Thunderbolt is basically Gundam's equivalent of Type Moon's Prisma. There's the basic backdrop of the Grail War, but pretty much its own thing. Same goes for Thunderbolt, don't worry too much about it. The OYW is just the basic backdrop and don't really matter. Just enjoy the cool mecha and music.

For starters, Amuro already got his magnetic coating upgrade. When his fighting style is all about outspeeding and outmaneuvering his opponents (especially because he's a Newtype), why take that advantage away by weighing his MS down with a bunch of armor and weapons?

Second, remember that the White Base was only meant to serve as a distraction for the Zeon forces, nothing else. The very fact that they have a Gundam is good enough to serve that purpose. They were never meant to be the tip of the spearhead, only as the distraction that draws forces away so that the actual spearhead can do its work. And it worked, Zeon sent its most powerful prototypes against the Gundam instead of letting them wreak havoc against the rest of the Federation fleet.

And finally, you're a fucking idiot if you think that Amuro should have gotten upgrades that only existed on paper back in 1979 (with many of them being designed after the fact). Tomino decided to do his story without overburdening the Gundam with fancy toys (though the cancellation might also have something to do with it), just because another faction of the Federation also has experimental tech in a work decades later doesn't make it non-canon.

I rewatched the previous episodes each time a new one came out, so I've seen the 1st four times, 2nd three times and 3rd two times. The first episode was enjoyable every time, the second episode is probably the 2nd best episode after this last one, the third is still weak after two viewings but Io kind of mellowing out just a little bit after seeing Claudia do her drugs and being given the responsibility of (disposable) underlings was a neat touch. The shape of a beam saber is maintained by the presence of an I-Field. Whenever something enters that I-Field it gets burned by the plasma, but the plasma can't get out past the I-Field.
When two beam sabers clash, it's I-Field blocking I-Field, there's no plasma contact because the plasma can't pass either I-Field.

Gundam Sentinel has a plot point where a New Desides pilot was surprised a battleship cannon can aim at his MS. Something about a battleship not having enough sensitivity to adjust their aim at fast targets (its actually the Full Armor ZZ Gundam shooting the cannon, he just didnt know that)

In Unicorn, however, battleship cannons are used regularly to try shoot down enemy MS (it even got one in ep.7, I think)

It depends, but most of the time, they're either have a limited run time, and for a Zaku, they'd have to be fucking huge, and with very limited run time (and an even longer cool down period).

And on a battleship getting an accurate shot. It's kind of accurate. MS are pretty fast, and getting a good shot with Minosky particles all over the place is really fucking hard unless you're a newtype. If you're stupid enough to get close, the AA guns will rip any MS to shreads, specially if they're making a beeline towards the ship.

It was a nice if very shallow experience. Part of me thinks it would have been better just as a set of music videos but the character served their roles well enough and I didn't find them annoying. The last two episodes had a kinda here we go again feel, especially the back and forth deaths that start to lose any effect and just lets have space battle time without seeming to have any plan.

I have no idea why they didn't release it in the west, I know a lot of fags would eat it up for being "realistic" when really it has a coating of realism and then is as dumb as many gundams.

The second part actually revolves around a new faction that breaks away from the Earth Federation after the war. They're an alliance of asian countries that served as battlefield cleanup during the war and they recover the remains of the Psycho Zaku and the main professor behind the Reuse Psycho Device. Both the Federation and Zeon remnants want to recover that tech from them, so it's leading to a three-way battle.
The South Seas Alliance also seems to be a sort of extremist religious faction. Their music theme on the battlefield consists of Buddhist chants and they appear to have members infiltrating both the Federation and Zeon remnants

After the OYW ends the story kind of goes off the rails, in my opinion. Everything with the Zeon remnants and the space Buddhists is kind of dumb, and I really don't like the Atlas.

It moved away from what I liked, which was mobile suits having crazy fights maneuvering around a dangerous part of space full of debris form destroyed colonies.

The author probably used this to show the horros and reality of war, and how kids are easily influencedby this kind of thing.

The plan itself wasn't THAT bad, I mean, it's a very basic plan, military speaking, but somehow worked.

Even more, we couldn't expect much else from the Mua brotherhood, lead by an incompetent green commander and her backstabbing staff, who tried a fucking frontal assault against enemy snipers holed up on defensive positions, in the very first chapter.

The plan with the kids corps it was that: a more numerous group distract the enemy mobile suits, while the other smaller group, lead by Io Gundam, attack the unprotected enemy fleet. Everything fine, the only thing I would change would the roles of the groups, Io, more experienced and better equipped, goes after the enemies suits and their ace, while the kids goes after the big and slow target.

The popular opinion is that The Mua/Moore Brotherhood is keeping Zeon forces tied up and by this time Zeon is in full retreat back to A Baoa Qu. The Federation is trying its hardest to hunt and kill Zeon forces that are fleeing but Side 4 and Side 7 are in opposite orbit of one another, there's no need to recapture Moore since there's nothing left and the chances of Zeon sending troops all the way from side seven to assist The Living Dead is fairly low, so why not send kids to fight in a battle that may overlap with the most important battle of the war.

Clearing the thunderbolt sector was actually high priority for the EFF. After it was cleared and zeon forces pulled out they moved the main fleet through it as a sort of backdoor on the orbital path to A baoa qu. This was the true purpose of the operation, not just cutting off a supply line.

They sent the brotherhood in to unknowingly do it for them so as to not tip of the zeon forces that this is where the main fleet was. The brotherhood basically got used by the EFF.
