I never realized Ishinomori was that much more popular compared to Yokoyama and Nagai. For some reason I always saw the three of them as being on the same level with Ishinomori being just slightly above them.
Same for Ishikawa, I didn't expect such a big difference.

gurren lagann was a story about honouring the past and bridging the gap between the past generation and the future one. everyone shits on the show but all nakashima wanted was for people to know and respect ishikawa's legacy and introduce him to the young folk. And it worked because Ishikawa exploded in popularity after 2007, more people watched the OVAs and the manga translation finally started after TTGL was over

Ishinomori sucks. What good manga has he actually done? 009 is drivel. He seems to write the same story over and over. Oh boy! It's another Ishinomori manga about a robot who wants to be human and they are sad. His characters have no depth and they aren't even entertaining. His stories read like a video game, with the characters just moving from fight to fight in order to reach an ending which usually doesn't even conclude anything. Also his art is shit, a poor copy of Tezuka's style.
