I theorize that there's roughly a 2 year delay on any US BD release after the JP version, so I suspect Turn A will hit in another year or so as a time delayed release. Wing will probably get a BD announced with the DVDs simultaneously since it's an older release. Victory and G will probably take a few extra years to get BDs, same with X when it hits in japan (likely in 2017, so 2019 for the US or so).

Anime is animated to motion picture film standards, which is (roughly) 24 frames per second. Now drawing 24 individual frames per second is ridiculously time consuming and expensive so for the purposes of anime you are very rarely gonna see "Ones", ie every single frame is a unique drawing. You are much more likely to see Threes, maybe Twos for some action scenes. Depending on cheapness you may see Fours.

You can check how many frames it is by pausing and going step by step frames in MPC. If a frame holds the same position for two taps, that's Twos.

3. Nobody really wanted the Earth, it was more about ruling other colonies. But even then they didn't really pay attention to the damage they were causing.

5. We don't even know they have moon colonies. We never saw them and all colonies are close in Earth orbit so we have to assume they didn't have any.
6. Moon gravity is weird shit and moon dust is hell on joints. Neither of these matter for giant robots that burn red but it's easier to just do Earth or space, nothing in-between.

Sunrise did cheap out by using 16mm, but the BD, if anything, was more costly to master given their excessive application of some nasty DNR on the 16mm episodes. Yeah, most Western animation is done on 2s, and most anime is done on 3s. Anime is cuts a lot of costs, and frame-rate is one of them. They also "cheat" a lot more using pans and static shots to fill run-time. They also squash and squeeze pretty aggressively in some action scenes (think QUALITY Sauske from Naruto).
Ghibli productions are on 2s, because the studio has a consistent record that they can bankroll the extra cost.

Disney will animate on 1s some of the time, but rarely for an entire picture, because it's fukken' expensive. But if you run the whole production at 24fps, you can switch from 1s/2s/3s on a scene-by-scene basis. And Disney features will do this when they really need to kick out the fucking jams and sell some smooth movement.

Go-to example of this is the "Tale as Old as Time" ballroom scene from Beauty and the Beast, done one 1s.

Check the movement around 2:13 for a noticeable spike in smoothness. The background and the chandelier are computer-generated and composited in, but the characters are all hand-drawn. I don't know. I'd assume it was done on 2s with some scenes on 1s. Some of the slo-mo shots of cars in the turn, or JP's tumbling crash at the end of the Yellow Line race come to mind.

To me what's amazing about Redline is that all the cars are hand-drawn and animated traditionally. These days it's WAY cheaper to do stuff like cars (or Gundams or whatever) digitally. They're consistently on-model designs that don't have too many moving parts (at least, not compared to a person), and they have a lot of easy-to-render hard edges. A computer is better at consistently rendering hard-edged objects in perspective than a person is.

But hand-drawing them lets you do all that great squash and stretch animation. And I think that's what sells the cars as characters and gives that insane sense of speed when they pop the nitros.

They definitely do some "Jap Trickery," but most of it is just gonzo animation. Moving pictures for the sake of moving pictures. Strictly for the love of the game, sonnnn. There's some digital tweening on post-production effects, like the searchlights when the Redline mothership teleports in, but I doubt there's any on the cars.

Damn, re-watching the Yellow Line sequence, I always loved the way that all the panels on the Trans-Am are animated seperately so it looks like the whole thing is about to rattle apart. I just noticed that as he's approaching the finish-line, JP is going so fast that he wears his ties tires completely bald. Shit, what a great cartoon.

In every other case where there's a movie version of a series it's a bad idea, because they're never long enough to properly cover the material they're based on.

For examples sake: the 0079 movies are 6h52m long and cover 43 episodes of story... the Zeta movies are 4h49m and cover 50 episodes of story.

Remember, the Neo Canada episode? Rain says Domon should take a break, and he explodes RAGWH, MY DAD GODDAMNIT. That same episode, Domon offers Shining Gundam's head in exchange for her safety when her life is in danger. Later on, we see this same guy openly sobbing when he meets up with Master Asia.

Despite his rude, and sometimes selfish tendencies, Rain has supported him the entire time, and tried to understand him and that's without being a fighter.

Honestly I wish I could try to do it. I have experience with video encoding and I know Japanese well enough that I could clean up the subs if they are bad. (I haven't actually watched this with the subs before)
