Passing through Makai Knight made the episode fun but Amemiya's writing in these things is alaramingly sloppy so far. Not that Garo is particularly known for it's writing but the MOTW stories are typically atleast engaging

An Amiri-Zinga first date episode isn't what I was expecting when I opened up this week's Garo, but I'm totally glad we got it. As much as klutzy, unconfident Amiri was unexpected, it wasn't a bad characterization. I wouldn't quite call it "Retard Moe" since even some of her quirkier behavior, like the stick collecting, was revealed to have a greater purpose. (On the other hand, I do kinda like that Zinga, horror or not, was always relentlessly Zinga.)

I think the best part of the episode though is that while the episode lets their fate hang over them, both figuratively and (in pic related, literally) it doesn't really ever beat you over the head with it. Aside from Gonza's line at the end, it doesn't feel the need to be like reshow them becoming horrors. It was handled in a way that it made the episode a tad bittersweet, and reminded me how the pair were basically the best thing in all of Goldstorm.

It's actually one of my favorites, to be honest, but it falls in rank because of just how badly Makai no Hana's ending was handled. Had Makai no Hana stuck the landing, I'd rank it with Divine Flame, My Name is Garo, and Savior in the Dark. I'd still rate it above Emerge and other mid or low-tier Garo OPs.

Hey guys. So I took a half year off Garo because Goldstorm was kind of a slog and the first episode of GnT didn't exactly grab me. I've already seen the first two episodes of Makai Retsudan and I'm enjoying the hell out of it, but I have to ask: is it worth going back and watching GnT?

As a former non-english toku subber and casual follower of foreign toku subbing scenes, this is the norm, sadly. Lots of foreign subbers have been deeply inspired by TVN's School Of Fansubbing - a good deal of the ones I've seen vastly prefer hardsubs and FX-ridden releases on the style of TVN.

The saddest thing is that if you look at their anime counterparts, a majority is up to the english scene's standards. It's just the toku scenes that are stubbornly stuck in 2006 TVN-land. Even most dorama subbers do softsubs, it's puzzling as fuck. Shit sux yo

Depends on the extra.
GARO TV is a special case as is Beast of the Midnight Sun.
Beast of the Midnight Sun got 3 different releases: Original 2 separate parts release, Aisouban, and director's cut. They were released in that order.
Aisouban was the more complete release, including the 2 parts of Beast of the Midnight Sun, GARO TV, the OST, Amemiya illustrated box, and some special booklet. Aisouban was limited in nature, so any Aisouban you might find will suposedly come with all of this. Of course, you can only find it at resellers, most likely second hand, and probably for like 500 bucks.

Who directed the Wataru half of the episode? Felt kinda different to the usual sorta thing we get, even the more lighter hearted parts of Makai no Hana's motw episodes didn't go full slapstick like this. Was pretty fun.
