I really think, given that he realizes himself that he prioritized the wrong things with GR, that the movies would be paced a lot better and cut a lot of the unnecessary fluff that held it back.

I wouldn't go that far. I think he lent a little too hard with the pacing for some people especially as they need a bit more spoon feeding, but at the same time it was meant to have a fast paced to emphasise how it is an adventure and it was hectic at times because it was hectic events where the characters commonly made mistakes.

I think the movies could hit a happier medium though and will likely be more focused which will help people, hopefully without watering down the feelings of the show

G-Reco was a surprise hit, with it's performance comparable to IBO's despite not being pushed nowhere near as heavily. While it might seem strange to the ANN crowd, in Japan the debate whether IBO or G-Reco is the better show is a hell of a lot closer. Heck, Yaraon polled their 500 of their readers and G-Reco had a slight lead in that regard.

He needs to get out of his old funk of relying on pointless action as a form of narratively treading water. When you have 50 episodes of content, it can work, though it's still Not a good thing. When You have less, shit just goes South real fast. Always has.

I mean, I like action. But If he wants to tell a story with an important message, he needs to sit down and focus on that, not on the window dressing. The movies sound like a good platform to do so.

It can be done. MSG nearly did it perfectly. I'd like to see that same spark out of him (though I'm not sure he directed the MSG movies).

Are you new? Bandai never had faith in G-Reco, otherwise they wouldn't have aired it in the middle of the night or not have limited the variety of merchandise available. They ARE expecting IBO to be the next big series and you don't need to look any further than the amount of streaming services they put it on, the fact they announced a dub before the second episode aired or the sheer variety of merchandise beyond Gunpla and video to see that.

G-Reco probably exceeded their expectations, while they're probably trying to rework IBO season 2 to perform better as I am typing this.

An adventure doesn't need to have a fast pace. What it does need to do is visit lots of new, exciting and exotic locations and explore them, have odd stuff happen, and make the world seem exciting and huge. I'd say G-Reco succeeded in some of them, but it didn't go to nearly enough locations or explore the ones it did visit nearly enough to be an adventure to me.

The story and setting are great, it's just a question of twisting their presentation; which is easier said than done considering that the movies will have less time. As other people have said in the thread, a lot of the superfluous scenes/battles could be moved out for the benefit of the story.
