Crossovers can be good and bad, they just need to crossover with the right properties (Well they need some similarities and decent writing to work, but that's a different factor).

The current Transformers vs GI Joe comic is a good example of this, taking two well-known 80s properties and just trying to emulate how silly 80s comics/cartoons were at the time in both characters and art style. It knows both series have stupid things in their history, and it brings them up to 11 (Omega Supreme is a Highway, Megatron takes parts from his fallen enemies and wears them as trophies, Cobra-La is now a cult for an eldritch god, etc). It doesn't try to be smart, but it just tries to tell a fun what-if story

Meanwhile a bad example of a crossover would be the New Avengers/IDW Transformers crossover. It tries to squeeze it's way canonically into both the then-new Transformers IDWverse and Marvel's Earth-616, while bringing nothing new to the table other than a Avengers+Autobots vs Doctor Doom+Decepticons fight spread over four issues. Heck the only thing that people tend to remember it for is this edit.
