The choruses are pretty similar right? I was wondering why I thought I found the ED so funky
>>
I'm loving the ED.
So funky, and Freyja is the perfect amount of genki in it.

/a/ has a thread talking about the new Macross ship that shows up in Delta. Why are people confused as to it's class?

It's a New Macross-class vessel, as evident from the shoulders. The central torso has heavy guns and armor that are just replacing the hangar bays you saw in that position on the Macross 7, Macross 21, and Macross 25. In fact, it looks similar to the torso on the Macross 13.

If you look at the carrier ship, it has the designation CV/C-109 on it. Given the shape, and the scale of the Valkyries on it, it seems like it might have been salvaged from an Uraga-class hull or some other carrier class that predates the Guantanamo and comes after the ARMDs, considering the Guantanamo starts from CV-299. By Macross 7 though, they're all CVS-XXX, while the Uragas start from CV-404.

By the way, the Prometheus from SDF Macross is CVS-101, and the keel looks similar. This might be a space-borne carrier that was based on the Prometheus' design as an homage.
>>

>Why are people confused as to it's class?
Because we can't tell it's full size from the way it's set up

Delta will actually end with Delta Squadron/Walkure/Aerial Knights/Zentradi/Vajra battle with Protoculture
>>
>>14113527
I would like to see the Vajra home planet again, it'd be interesting to see how/if humans are managing to coexist with the bugs, since both the series and the movies were optimistic about that prospect. The Vajra did end up UNDERSTANDING humans in both, after all.

I'm actually super disappointed that Walkure's musical ability isn't measured in Chiba Units. That would have been a nice callback.

Well, they are measuring fold waves, no? Chibaa unit is only for song energy.
If they are measuring song energy(of which there probably is some calculation needed to convert the fold wave readings to the equivalent in Chiba units), I can see them using Chiba units.

Fold Waves, which are like waves generated by the higher dimensional space, are said to be deeply linked to Space Fold Navigation. It's thought that Song Energy, which was discovered in 2045, is a kind of Fold Wave, and research is being carried out on them even now.

Protoculture went extinct hundreds of thousands of years ago.

They came to earth during their war with the Supervision Army and Protodevlin. Uplifted some apes into humans. Left the Birdman behind to serve as a safe guard from humanity becoming warlike in space. Then their ships that knew about earth were destroyed in the war. Earth was forgot about and went about its history. Until the Supervision Army Gun Frigate, that became the SDF Macross, landed on Earth.

Correction.
>>They came to earth during their war with the Supervision Army and Protodevlin.
No actually just a couple of years before that. The Stellar Republic went into civil war and a Survey Ship was seeding Earth as preparation for colonization.

>>Left the Birdman behind to serve as a safe guard from humanity becoming warlike in space.

No Macross Zero establishes the Bird Human arrived based on coral carbon dating 10,000 years before. Earth was rediscovered.

>>Then their ships that knew about earth were destroyed in the war. Earth was forgot about and went about its history.
This happened around 500,000 years ago. The ones who blew it up was Anti-Stellar Republic forces.

>>
I just don't get the appeal of Delta. We all know Mirage is going to lose; she has the cute animal mascot of the series in the OP.
>>
>>14114653
There's no easy guessing. Both Freyja and Mirage have traits that typically went to losers in series

Freyja is the younger girl in the triangle who is an idol while Mirage is a Zentraedi with a cute pet. So both exhibit the qualities that the losing side tends to have. Let's just be glad neither of them have green hair
>>
>>14114664
Kawamori said he's trying to do something new with Delta in terms of the relationship triangle.
>>
>>14114667
That's not what he said. Why does everybody keep misquoting this? What he said was

>Kawamori pointed out that the delta symbol in the logo is made of triangular symbols to symbolize the three main thematic elements of Macross: music, a love triangle, and Valkyries. However, he also noted that the two symbols are split, and explained that this is indicative that the three elements will not come together as expected in the new story

So what he's saying is that all the elements will not be the same as before not specifically the love triangle.

For a decades-old fighter the VF-1 still keeps up with the newer models pretty well. Or maybe it's just the tech upgrades doing their thing.
>>
>>14117249

It's not flying against another fighter there though? That's just two VF-1s against each other. You can't get any kind of performance benchmark off that.
>>
>>14117249
Well in the totally canon PSP games you can upgrade them to be on par and even better than modern valks

On my second rewatch of the episode, I realised something.
>"Welcome to Walkure world"
>Walkure -> Valkyrie
>Walkure world -> Valhalla?
Welcoming Freyja to Valhalla? In hindsight, that's kind of weird.

Then I went and googled a bit.
>just like Odin, Freyja receives slain heroes who have died on the battlefield, and that her house is Sessrumnir (which she translates as "filled with many seats"), a dwelling that Näsström posits likely fills the same function as Valhalla.
>Näsström comments that "still, we must ask why there are two heroic paradises in the Old Norse view of afterlife. It might possibly be a consequence of different forms of initiation of warriors, where one part seemed to have belonged to Óðinn and the other to Freyja.
>These examples indicate that Freyja was a war-goddess, and she even appears as a valkyrie, literally 'the one who chooses the slain'."

Of course this can all mean nothing, but considering the use of mythological names in anime means some parallel to the mythologies at times, its certainly interesting.

Everyone is related to plane except pretty boys squad.
Hayate Immelmann shares his last name from named after German pilot Max Immelmann, creator of the Immelmann turn.

Mikumo Guynemer shares her's with French World War 1 fighter ace Georges Guynemer.

Kaname Buccaneer is likely named after the Blackburn Buccaneer, a Royal Navy jet bomber from the 1950s.

Makina Nakajima takes her surname from Nakajima aircraft company, a prominent Japanese aircraft manufacturer in World War 2.

Reina Prowler shares her name with the Grumman EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft. Fitting since this seems to be part of her role in the Walkure and Delta Platoon.

DELTA SQUADRON HAS TWO HIDDEN MEANINGS IN THEIR NAMES:

Chuck Mustang obviously named after the North American P-51 Mustang. Chuck's first name could also be a shout out to Chuck Yeager, the first pilot ever to break the sound barrier in level flight.

Messer Ihlefeld is named after German World War 2 fighter ace Herbert Ihlefeld. Messer's name might be related to Messerschmitt AG (German pronunciation: [ˈmɛsɐʃmJt]) was a German aircraft manufacturing corporation (AG) named after its chief designer Willy Messerschmitt and known primarily for its World War II fighter aircraft, in particular the Bf 109 and Me 262.

Arad Mölders takes his name after another German World War 2 fighter ace, Werner Mölders. Arad's name might be related to: The Arado E.555 was a strategic bomber proposed by the German Arado company in response to the Amerika Bomber project. Arado Flugzeugwerke was a German aircraft manufacturer, originally established as the Warnemünde factory of the Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen firm, that produced land-based military aircraft and seaplanes during the First World War.
>>
>>14117373
Bogue Con-Vaart meanwhile is named after the Bogue-class escort carriers.
>>
>>14117383
>>14117373
Clarence Leonard "Kelly" Johnson was an American systems and aeronautical engineer. He is recognized for his contributions to a series of important aircraft designs, most notably the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.

Just different ships made in different times, probably by different manufacturers as well.
New and better ships are designed over time and some ships are made differently than the other ships in the same class.

The Battle 7, Battle Galaxy, and Battle Frontier are all in the same class, but they still have differences.
Battle 7 was normal, Battle Galaxy had the massive hologram system and presumably is remotely controlled, Battle Frontier was over 400m taller than 7 or Galaxy due to the Frontier fleet being huge in comparision.

Feet- Global Class.
>>14117679
Or this.
>>14118035
Because each fleet flies with their own manufacturing plant and is able to customize designs to their needs. I am sure they can straight up make ships up to Battle class guncannon and pretty much everything in between. Quarter was build during Frontier flight for example.
>>14118059
Also, designs age over time so any overhaul is done as resurces are available and new designs are sent over fold comms.
>>14118150
Sizewise sure but use different hulls even when based on the same basic frame. And it's safe bet that by Frontier times Battle class is at least as modular as Quarter design, so upgrading is easier.
>>14120339
Upgraded Macross/Global with modern tech? Judging by Island size Ragna fleet might have been launched with older ships.
>>14120388
Because it doesn't match any of previous designs and should be New Macross variant like Frontier or Galaxy considering where we are on the timeline.
>>14120563
Only it is not. Chest is wrong, legs have wrong proportions, thrusters are wrong, twin tower scream old design from orbit. So nope.

Anyone notice the bit on the political situation, where Windermere seems to have overthrown its NUNS government and gone into some sort of repressive monarchy, complete with cultural censorship? Sort of explains the Aerial Knights fighting the regular NUNS forces and Walkure.

At any rate, this could be interesting. Instead of battles against aliens who just need UNDERSTANDING and DECULTURE, maybe we've got some real power politics behind this and a war of ideologies that can't be stopped by mere songs, like the Unification Wars where people like Nora and D.D. fought no matter what?

Then again, it depends on whatever Kawamori's smoking this week.

From what I've heard on /toy/, Fighter and Battroid mode are both packaged in the same box, and you partswap one into the other to create Gerwalk. It sounds like a very cool idea to make the VF-31 work at such a small scale. I dunno if it being pre-painted is enough to justify its price tag tho.

The YF-30 chronos is 18.83m, so a 1/144 would be 13cm, and a 1/100 would be 18.8cm.

I'm not liking where Freyja's character is going. So far she has been given everything on a silver plate and she just keeps conveniently getting things handed to her.

Even Ranka had to climb her way to the top, from singing on malls to failing auditions, but you know, she worked hard. Freyja just turned into an idol in the fucking second episode of the show without pretty much doing anything and just out of convenience that she has a magical voice and her idols were also conveniently there to listen to her firsthand.

I just think they could have taken the time to show her actually working hard to be an idol instead of this. I mean, part of the fun of idol shows is seeing them slowly develop to one, climbing their way up. In here, Freyja just looks like a spoiled kid.
>>
>>14127226
She's more a soldier than an idol. She's not going to be saving to make mad dosh she's going to be singing to save lives.
>>
>>14127226
The idols in this have more of a combat role.
>>
>>14127226
And if the episode descriptions are anything to go by, Freya will be undergoing training to be a proper Walkure.
>>
>>14127229
Those girls who were auditioning were also going to be soldiers and they at least had to go through the whole process of selection.

Freyja not only got late to the whole thing, she also was admitted because of convenience , even though she literally just arrived there and didn't even looked up how the auditions actually worked. Is not convincing.

>you'll never be the meat in a Sheryl/Mikumo sandwich

>>
>>14127226
They are not supposed to be regular idols though.

They are combat units first and idols second. They want people that stand and sing while risking their lives and most importantly, can shit out fold waves to fight the Var. The idol part is just a bonus for them.

The fact that Freyja could shit out fold waves was the reason why they allowed her to enter the audition, because she has the most important ability they are looking for in their tactical idols.
If she hadn't been on the planet when Var happened and Walkure deployed, even if she made it to Ragna she wouldn't have been allowed in. But in this case, they had clear data that she has what they are looking for.

>>14127240
They are looking for fold affinity the whole time? The singing and dancing is mostly to get them to start shitting out fold waves.
>>
>>14127234
They already knew she had a special voice so they gave her special permission. Stop getting so bent out of shape over it.
>>
>>14127240
The voice is the most important thing. If they didn't have an adequate singing voice capable of fold shenanigans, then there's no point accepting them. Military training, discipline, use of those shield drones, holographic gear, and even bravery in the face of the enemy can be trained, but not a fold-capable voice.

And for whatever reason, instead of being strapped into a cockpit while singing like in M7 or Frontier, they decided that singing up close works most effectively.

But this is what I'm talking about. It all looks too convenient. So far the only thing she has done is pop up in places and sing, and gets pulled in skipping all the hard work (because fuck those girls that actually had to go through the preliminary auditions until the final auditions) because the higher ups saw her signing, because she just happened to be there. It just all looks too convenient, she has done nothing other that have super magical voice.

>>14127253
>Ranka also had a magical voice that played an important part in the war, and it took her a bunch of episodes of signing before people started to give her importance because of it.
Because they didn't find out until later that her singing affects the vajra. In Macross Delta, the government and military is already aware of the uses and properties of fold singing to combat the vars thing.
>>
>>14127253
>Ranka also had a magical voice that played an important part in the war, and it took her a bunch of episodes of signing before people started to give her importance because of it.
Apples to oranges. Both their voices do different things, Ranka's can communicate with Vajra, Freya's cures the Var Syndrome and Chaos is actively looking for people with similar fold reactions in their voice. No one was looking for singers that can talk to space bugs.
>>
>>14127226
>Freyja just looks like a spoiled kid.

Freyja is Ranka on steroids. She's Minmay, Sharon, Sheryl, and Ranka all rolled into one.
>>
>>14127260
>Because they didn't find out until later that her singing affects the vajra.
Exactly. But you know why? Because Ranka was a nobody in the beginning of the show. And just because she hanged around Sheryl didn't mean she could skip auditions or win just because Sheryl was there. Hell, Sheryl knew Ranka could sing since early in the show and that didn't change Ranka had to work hard.

With Freyja is like "fuck you, other girls that auditioned, Mikumo knows I'm awesome because she heard me singing, I'm just going to the final auditions even though I'm late lol".

Hell, even at some point they were about to discard her because she didn't meet the expectations, until they pulled that prank on her because reasons? This is like Sheryl making Ranka win that beauty contest just because she was one the judges.

Being of the same race as the guys they're almost at war with is another bonus.
>>
>>14127270
So given that the circumstances are different, why is it such a problem that they would fast track someone with high potential into a military unit? Your complaint that Ranka had to work harder to get a similar spot would only make sense if they already knew Ranka's singing affects the Vajra yet subjected her to working bit jobs before she was allowed to advance. Ranka was only given a nudge toward an entertainment career by Sheryl, not special dispensation by the military.
>>
>>14127262
You're missing the point.

Freyja got in just because Mikumo basically pulled her in, even though she didn't meet the numbers in the beginning. She never had to prove herself to them.

Knowing Sheryl didn't mean shit to Ranka's success. Even after they found out what her voice did to the vajras, Ranka still got herself to that point on her own. No one magically ran onto her and decided she was going to be an idol on the spot.
>>
>>14127270
>fuck you, other girls that auditioned, Mikumo knows I'm awesome because she heard me singing, I'm just going to the final auditions even though I'm late lol"

Yes, because it's a military operation looking specifically for fold resonance not an audition to find the new member of AKB48. Fairness is irrelevant.

>Hell, even at some point they were about to discard her because she didn't meet the expectations, until they pulled that prank on her because reasons?
Again you completely failed to follow anything that happened. The staged attack was the final test to see if she could still sing under duress.

Except she did. And she got in because of her voice and actions on Shahal. They saw she had potential and let her in. They weren't going to let a singer with a high fold reactive response just walk away like that.
>>
>>14127270
>Hell, even at some point they were about to discard her because she didn't meet the expectations, until they pulled that prank on her because reasons?
Are you retarded? They gave her another chance because she wasn't singing as high as before because she was nervous. It's really starting to sound like you didn't pay attention to the episode or you're just plain dumb.
>>
>>14127253
>hard work
>when they are not supposed to be regular idols
They already told us they are a tactical sound unit. They are in the fucking military and they need the fold shenanigans to fight the Var Syndrome.
They are looking for that ability in the people that joined the audition the whole time.
There are 4 girls with that ability in the audition, and only Freyja's fold wave output was anywhere close to what they need.

>it took her a bunch of episodes of signing before people started to give her importance because of it.
Because she was working towards being a regular idol that doesn't necessarily need fold wave shenanigans?
Walkure needed people that can produce fold waves first and foremost.
Hard work does not give you the ability to produce fold waves. You are either born with it or you get something like the Vajra-virus in you that will kill you over time if they are not in your intestines, or you are lab grown to do so(If the ending shot of Mikumo in the OP is any indication).

In fact, its the same circumstances that led to Hayate being recruited for Delta squad. Arad recognized that he had talent and roped him into Delta squad, an elite squad. Hayate wasn't even a fucking military recruit, he was just a random talented civilian.
>>
>>14127278

> And for whatever reason, instead of being strapped into a cockpit while singing like in M7 or Frontier, they decided that singing up close works most effectively.

It's possibly because singing up close does work most effectively. We've already seen as much. Most of the Var victims were simply incapacitated. The only ones who were actually cured someone had to sing right in the face off. As such they presumably have to get up close and personal to cure them properly.

This may not always be the case, as the Windermere alien affecting people with Vars is doing so from light years away, but Walkure don't appear to know that technique or technology yet, so they can't do it.

Even if they learn how to though, they almost certainly won't sit back in safety and sing the majority of the time as they are not just curing victims, but helping the public survive them by directing drones, acting as bait and so on. Which can't be done nearly as effectively from anywhere else. They have the training and equipment to do so, so they will regardless of the risk, because they've accepted that risk as acceptable. They have back up too.

> "fuck you, other girls that auditioned, Mikumo knows I'm awesome because she heard me singing, I'm just going to the final auditions even though I'm late lol"

As other's have pointed out those girls were never getting the place anyways because while they may have been willing to step on to a battlefield and may have been able to sing they didn't have the ability to cure Vars. Freyja did, in a big way, so an exception was made to bring her in because they'd yet to find anyone else who could do all 3 things like Freyja after multiple interviews, and there's no point turning her away because she was late.
>>
>>14127352

Additionally she has worked for it to some degree. She ran away from home, stowed away on a ship for weeks, took part in an active battle and passed the Walkure test. That's work. It may not be the same work, but it's still work regardless.

>>14127306

Didn't Grace mess with Sheryl and Ranka to push the former out while promoting the latter since doing so helped her? I thought it was her and not the government that were behind the initial push?

I fell for it last week, mostly because (a) I'd never seen it before and (b) it seems perfectly logical without any kind of malice to link an episode. What I don't get is what the point is. It doesn't make me mad to fall for it. I just close the tab and wait. It's the laziest trolling ever to me, since there's no effort and no apparent reward. I'm not sure what that anon expects really. Oh well. Got me I guess. Whatever that's worth.

The EX-Gear is in the cockpit so its probably a further upgraded version of the VF-1. We'll have to see what Makina was saying to see the difference.

This is the first time I'm watching Macross, and it is a really refreshing experience to me. I just never watched something like this before.

Also, as an Asian who isn't familiar with American culture, I have a question. What is the difference between Robotech(which is kind of localized version of Macross, iirc?) and the original Macross?
>>
>>14130200
Robotech changed numerous things to fit into the continuity of the other two shows. While Robotech got off fairly easy compared to Southern Cross, it still had its fair number of changes as well.

For one; exposition via narrator was plentiful.
Two; they changed the meaning of Protoculture which sort of does have lasting impacts.

I'd say the biggest was that they basically kill of the bridge bunnies and Global unlike Macross where he retires, iirc.

Robotech is Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the first series, + Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross by the same production company + Genesis Climber Mospaeda which is entirely unrelated. Robotech takes most of the story elements from Macross and rewrites Southern Cross and Mospaeda to fit them so that they could get one coherent, super-long series out of it for syndication on American network TV back in the 80s.

Macross is mostly the same except Protoculture is now petroleum and not a civilization, though that civilization which created the Zentraaedi is renamed The Robotech Masters. Also, there's a super-genius scientist in the backstory called Zor, who took the last generator of protoculture and hid it in the Super Dimension Fortress, sending it off into space to keep it from the hands of The Robotech Masters so that their empire of conquest will crumble. That's why the Zentraedi end up at Earth in Robotech, as opposed to chasing a Supervision Army destroyer, who are Zentradi controlled by evil extra-galactic Cthulhu aliens used to destroy the Protoculture civilization in SDF Macross, or a Meltran destroyer in SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love where the Zentrans and Meltrans are fighting the gender war.

>>
>>14130496
Aside from that, Robotech has a darker ending to SDF Macross, where humanity and the zentraedi fail to establish a new society on Earth that rebuilds itself to establish a galactic empire. Instead, most of the Zentraedi revert to their warlike instincts, like what's happening with Var syndrome, and retreat to form a Zentraedi colony in South America and wage war on the humans up in North America. With most of the UN Spacy having gone off into deep space to confront the Robotech Masters, a new military is formed to genocide the remaining Zentraedi, known as the Army of the Southern Cross. Once they do that, the Robotech Masters show up to conquer the Earth and recover what Zor stole, which is the whole plot of the second arc.

Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross was part of the same "series" as Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the Super Dimension anime franchise which also included Super Dimension Century Orguss and was also unrelated to the other entries. They share some similar concepts: Transforming robots piloted by the heroes, fighting against dystopian/fascistic enemy forces, and a commentary on Cold War-era geopolitical concerns. Macross was about the bridging of of two hostile cultures, one creative and free and one totalitarian. Southern Cross was about environmental devastation brought on by unchecked civilization and nationalism. Orguss was kind of about nationalism and the effects of new, world-changing technologies.

Robotech in general is bleak compared to Macross. Billions die every few decades in alien invasions and shit.

Wait a minute, isn't that what happened to Alto in the movie?

When Alto put on the earring, we get this PoV-ish scene where everything shifts into some trippy world or something.
Maybe something similar is happening to Hayate whenever he "hears" Freyja's song through the fold quartz?

By the book girl that lived in the shadow of Jenius? She already got better. As did Freya and literally any other character on the Delta/Valkurie side. On the other hand, evil plotting right hand of young king seems stale.

and again, Messer is an asshole but this asshole does have a point.
>>
>>14131096

Up until this episode she was just an unbelievable bitch for no reason.
>>
>>14131096
Though, if Messer is forced into a 1v1 with Keith every battle, it'll be a hilarious slap on the face for him
>>
>>14131099
You never had strict parents, expecting you to succeed no matter what, haven't you? Peer pressure does work wonders on ones personality.
She will eighter start enjoying flying and by this proxy life et all or she will be revealed that she never actually wanted to be pilot in a first place.
Also, secret Basara/Sheryl fan.
>>14131103
This was literally my first thought after I've saw his dialog. And with aerial knights theme on antagonist side, we can be pretty sure it will.

>>14131060
Another idea - Delta and girls are so in sync because they establish local fold network. Mirage is offbeat because, as mentioned, fold waves are generated when subject is in 'right' set of mind. It fits with her persona and her future growth as character.
>>14131016
Arad is a magnificent bastard.
And being a captain of Elysium is suffering.
>>
>>14131111

>my parents were strict and expected the best and they were so good at everything I felt inferior
>better just slap the shit out of everybody and be an asshole for no reason

She literally drew her gun on a random civilian and wouldn't even let him explain. Then she walks up and starts punching the same guy in the face later because he went in an abandoned plane to try and save people. And then when she gets called out on it, then, and only then, does she start acting "by the book." Yeah, nah, she's a cunt.
>>
>>14131114
Said civilian was assaulting young girl in a back alley.
Said civilian was using military hardware in a warzone after hijacking it, which itself is punishable under laws of combat irl, then proceeded to wreck said hardware, endangering everybody involved and civilian on the ground.
Oh, she is neurotic mess for sure but most of her issues come from one sentence "granddaughter of Millia and Max Jenius".
So, she is bitchy but with a really good reason to be so.
>>
>>14131096
Messer seems prefer teamwork than some one vs one. He is a teamplayer. If Hayate would have finished without Messer messing with him then he would still think that he doesn't need to take lessons.
>>
>>14131103
>Though, if Messer is forced into a 1v1 with Keith every battle, it'll be a hilarious slap on the face for him
I think it would be a slap to Keith since he is described as chivalrous. It's Keith who is going to look stupid with every episode asking for a duel.
>>
>>14131111
It doesn't even have to be strict parents. The weight of expectation on her for being a Jenius alone is pretty fucking much.
>>
>>14131185
>asking for a duel
He doesn't have to ask though.
And even if he did, and they refused, Messer could be forced into a 1v1 duel thanks to Delta squad being busy with the others.
>>
>>14131208

You would think not being a bitch would be one of those expectations.
>>
>>14131213
Miria was a bitch.
>>
>>14131111
>Peer pressure does work wonders on ones personality.

Wouldn't that cast her as the inferior woman when Freyja comes from medieval anti Walkure society, stood a trip as a stowaway to live the life as she wanted and not as others dictated it to be? I really hope that's not the case, because she'll just be slapped and lectured by Freyja or by Hayate using Freyja as example.
>>
>>14131219
Initially, sure. It seems that her growth, together with Hayate maturing, makes up their character arcs in the first half. Thou calling any of them inferior or superior is wrong, as it is shown that Freya is carrying her won baggage and genki persona of hers might be eighter a facade or elaborate PTSD.

I've got good experiences with 1/1800 scale warships when 3D printed, but bad experiences with 1/350 scale fighterplanes in Shapeways's cheapest materials.

Still, I might try getting a few of these (or similar ones, since it seems multiple people make VF minis on Shapeways) to see how they'll work out.

Looking around some more, it's looking like the main problem with minis at that scale is that there's no opposition available.

Speaking from experience of Ysflight with valks pack, this is actually pretty tamed. Valks are capable of over hundred of Gs of acceleration pretty much in an instant, GEARWALK allows for putting that vector pretty much anywhere and energy conversion armor keeps whole thing in one piece while in atmosphere - more like Ghosts really.
Same thing as with Yukikaze, as soon as human is eliminated, be it by AI or ICS, performance skyrockets.
Brera was eighter playing with Alto in this scene or limits on neural interface are still hindering the plane.

Semi related - weren't Grace's Lucifers AI driven?
