Considering they had ghosts, spider mecha and people going berserk as well as teenage terrorists in the first chapter, I think you're being facetious. Tone was a bit darker, but nothing is more realistic about it.

Anyway, the terms Plugsuit originated specifically in Evangelion and shouldn't have a meaning outside that universe (since it's for Entry Plug).
