Poor pacing made worse by sacrificing coherent conveyance at the altar of tominospeak. The characters were constantly half-expositing their way around the matter at hand in a hamfisted way of attempting to infodump the viewer 'organically', but more often than not it just came across as the character talking about inane and pointless shit that didn't matter to the plot and was just wasting time until you realize, much too late into the conversation, that this drivel actually IS the plot and then you have to go back and rewatch the scene to piece together the thing they are talking about but refuse to name directly.

This is why people simultaneously complained that the characters were explaining way too much and nothing at all. They were constantly telling us stuff, they just were not explaining it very well or insisted on infodumping us on stuff we didn't care about at the expense of telling us what the fuck was going on. Which also creates way too much room for misunderstandings on behalf of the viewer.

When your plot is only explained in offhand comments and "natural" dialog, thats how you set up a situation where a single remark forces us to conclude that an entire class of people were bred from birth as human cattle. Because exactly as much weight is given to that tasteless comment as is given to plot important setting details.

I'm on like episode 22 and have no problems with it so far.
