So how do females handle autism?

It's been scientifically proven that mecha anime with girl protagonists don't sell well especially ones in franchises usually with male protagonists.

Think of it this way. What do you think would happen if the latest, say, Yu-Gi-Oh or Beyblade or Kamen Rider series had a girl protagonist? Do you think they could move merchandise like that?

If the character's good, yeah I'd love that. I've wanted that for the longest time.

One of the things I loved about Christina's character, or more her design, was that she was cute and feminine in her normal wear, outside combat (though not obnoxiously so.(, but when she was in a pilot suit in the Alex, her design became more neutral. When you look at her (especially when she has her angry or offensive face) she looks like she could be any male Gundam protagonist. With the helmet and the padding of the pilot suit (especially the arms), she appears more androgynous, and I loved that, because to me that sent a visual message that it didn't matter if she was a man or a woman, when at the controls of a giant machine she was just a pilot and a soldier. (And yeah I know she's not a stellar pilot in universe, as she's just a test pilot...but I'm talking more aesthetics here.)

I want THAT feeling from a female Gundam protagonist. Not some overly pandering cutsey character, nor this trying too hard to be an inclusive female representation "badass" character, just a good character who who, whatever happens outside of an MS...means business when she's in one.

Which is why I know it'll probably never happen. We'd probably get a fat or husky protagonist before a female lead with how Gundams' marketed in Japan.

Plus the main demographic for mecha is male otaku who like to insert themselves as the MC. Making the MC female will alienate a large part of the potential fanbase. Others will try to waifu the MC which will make any potential love interests awkward at which point you may just make it a shojo.

Now these are some real issues. Pic related didn't have any such problems because it was a new IP with no baggage but nothing with the Gundam name will ever have that kind of luxury. They also managed a fairly low key romance arc but that probably wouldn't work when the audience is demanding more hot-blooded robot action and less entire episodes of fun character interactions.

If a woman protagonist didn't end up with anyone its not like she'd be in bad company, considering half the protags of Gundam series' might flirt around, but never really end up with anyone half the time.

I would love it and I think a lot of people underestimate how many people would be either fine with it or even welcome it as well. I don't about anyone else but I rarely feel the need to "relate" with the MC of a mecha anime, a Gundam anime no less. To me they're just a character, and if it were a well done female protagonist that wouldn't be any different.

But that said, its still very unlikely a thing we'll see anytime soon because while I think it'd be more welcomed than some here are exaggerating, it's still a potential minefield of a situation to navigate for either authors penning the thing, or studios making it, as there is a lot of fickleness especially within the Japanese otaku community over things like this...and this is just assuming studio execs could be convinced to do it when trying to catch the young male demographic they often aim for (which again, I really believe this wouldn't have a huge effect on toy sales, although I guess that would depend on the quality of the mecha designs and just...the hypothetical nature of whatever series this is. Whether its an AGE, or something more like Thunderbolt aiming for a slightly older group.)

I mean, I would love it, and I don't think if it were done right that it'd be so dead in the water as some here are suggesting, I think people are underestimating a lot of mecha anime fans' potential appreciation for something new; but it would still probably be divisive in the very least, which would make getting something like that greenlighted problematic.

I think though, if this were an older aiming short OVA, that would have a substantially higher chance of happening than a full fledged TV series.

The scenes with Chris were excellent, and while I didn't mind the other stuff, they really paled in comparison.

She's not the main character per se, but the daughter of the protagonist of Climax UC apparently becomes the pseudo "main" Gundam pilot (piloting F-90 II no less) in the last part.

Its a story about the guy's life, and his family later, going from him as a young man during the OYW, aaaalll the way to the UC 0120's. I really wish I could read it, only some of it was translated and the rest never completed.
