Rumor states that during the original Aquarion, Kawamori had the idea that Apollo would not be the reincarnation of the angel Apollonius, but rather his dog Pollon, who also loved Apollonius's lover Celiane. This was supported by Apollo's noticeably dog-like behavior during the series, but was ultimately shot down by the rest of the staff as being fucking stupid, and thus Apollo turned out to be Apollonius after all.

Come EVOL, the twist was made real. Apollo, and by extension his reincarnations Amata and Kagura, are the reincarnations of a dog, and this entire franchise had been an exercise of 24,000 years in dog fucking. Gen/Zen Fudo was the actual reincarnation of Apollonius, and was aware of it, which retroactively makes Fudo into the biggest monster in the franchise because he had the ability to solve the plots of both the original series and EVOL at any time but actively deceived the entire cast to avoid doing so and thus is responsible for every death in the franchise, all so that he could watch his girlfriend get fucked by a dog she thought was him. He completely escapes any punishment for this and gets away scot-free.

Logos mercifully switches to an AU rather than try to follow up on this mess, because any attempt to fix things at this point could only make everything even worse.

Real talk: Logos started out pretty bad. The art style is weird, it has nothing to do with the setting of the first two at all, the mechs are formed from two parts and not three, Akira is an autistic weirdo and Subete is a hilariously ineffectual cuck.

After a while, though, it gets good. Not like a little good, like really fucking awesome. Everything from the Separate arc onward is some of the best stuff to ever bear the Aquarion name. There are still a few flaws, but compared to EVOL and even compared to chunks of Sousei, the whole last half of Logos is pretty fantastic. It seriously became my favorite Aquarion.

A good enough second half can make up for a bad first half. Star Trek TNG's first two seasons are some of the worst television ever made, but the show as a whole is beloved because when they got their shit together they really got their shit together.

Obviously if you're not willing to sit through any bad parts, you're going to have problems with Logos, but personally I felt that what I got at the end was more than good enough to justify the earlier parts.

Logos was a hilarious Japanese wordplay based monster of the week, and the second half actually made it worse by focusing almost entirely on THE SAVIOR and fucking over the rest of the cast.

The main draw of the first few episodes is the setting and the "magic" system they run on, while the characters take a while to grow on you

They liked it in the beginning, but Mikono's character was absolutely insufferable and she never gave a sign of choosing one or another (though she treats Kagura much better than Amata), not to mention she was bland as fuck, she's treated less like a love interest and more like a trophy for Amata and Kagura to fight over, so the whole thing about Amata's "true love" for Mikono being the real thing, unlike Kagura who supposedly only felt lust, look fake as fuck.

Also, people started to root for Kagura when he showed he was a much more fun character than Amata, but his characterization was a mess and he was, at best, pretty inconsistent throughout the whole show. And the resolution they did was absolute shit, too, with Mikono not even getting to decide who she wants to be with because Amata and Kagura decided for her.

Long story short, yeah, it was good in the beginning, but the second half melodrama and Mikono ruined it, not to mention that in this case, the evil love rival seemed a much better option, and they ended up brainwashing him to give up. And Amata's relationship with Mikono was terrible, so it was hardly believable when the show tries to make a point in that his love is real, unlike Kagura's lust. They both looked like obsessed retards.
