My thought is that it was funny the first time someone did it with Samurai Flamenco and vaguely appropriate given the show's frequent change in focus but that it's just sad when people do it for every show and you're missing the point of the meme in the first place by doing so.

The SamFlam one was alright because instead of trying to shove all the pictures into one oversized ebin meme XD image, instead it was doing different pictures in sequence. Which as you said fits the show.

It was nowhere near the first time someone made an oversized WEG image like that though. The first one that really received huge backlash was the Rinne no Lagrange one, despite (or maybe because of) RnL being a decent show.

Moby Dick itself leads back to Shakespeare's revenge plays like Hamlet, which leads back to ancient Greek and Roman plays about revenge like Thyestes. Which probably traces back further to older stories like Gilgamesh (the oldest story in Western tradition) if you know them well enough. And that's just the Western tradition. Metal Gear Solid probably has some influence from Eastern stuff I've no idea off too.
