They went over some things with some filter, it looks quite nice. Everything looks a little more polished.

I could just be misremembering from the TV rip, but there seems to be a little bit of cleaning up on the mouths when characters speak. It looks a little more fluid.

While Fafner does at it's core take inspiration from Evangelion early on, the further you get it the more it diverges.

And the animation will be rough for the first series but every OVA, Movie and Series afterwards the quality just goes up.

Also if you start getting confused in the first 10 or so episodes, don't feel bad, you're supposed to be because you're meant to watch it from Kazuki's point of view. If you ever rewatch it after watching the entire series, you'll understand pretty much everything

I've been hooked in pretty fast. The world and setting's super fascinating and full of so many questions I want answered. I also like the characters already as well, like no one's offense or annoying yet. They all kind of get that shit's fucked and they need to deal with it.

Ah the trial scene was fantastic yes! I'm amazed how much I'm enjoying all the character interactions in the show. The world building and mysteries, I expected to like those. But damn do I like a lot of the cast regardless of what jelly monster they last punched.

If the relationship charts officially say Fumihiko and Chizuru love each other, then why don't they get married or openly express their feelings or SOMETHING? Is it because they feel obligated to their children, or Akane, or, different positions, or something else? In Exodus, there is a scene in the Kaburagi salon where someone from Alvis said a few people were already getting married (But there's also Sakura and Kenji getting married, but there's already an actually a reason for that). So, any real reasoning here?

Their children probably played a big part in that up to Exodus, yeah. They're all adults now, but it'd be hard to try making your own life with Festum threats still on the horizon too.

They're both so awkward about the whole thing too, worse than any of the kids. Fumihiko's position as commander is the closest thing to an actual excuse at this point.

I believe it, and it's what was pitched to me when I wanted to get into the series. Somewhere along the line I went from liking this show to absolutely loving it. Regret nothing.

God it's just, there's so much there. It was so fuckin interesting and engaging with how the plot was handled. there were dark elements but it never went edgy or pretentious and offputting. Characters were so damn likeable. Any time I disliked someone was due to a human mistake, selfishness or them being a shit. Yet it never dragged on for so many episodes that I grew frustrated. People moved on or adapted. Or straight up died. And the tone just hooked me. It's a great mix of dark fucked up shit but tons of lighthearted upbeat moments. It didn't get mired in how horrible and hopeless shit is like most things in this style do. Yet it doesn't go perfectly sunshine and rainbows.

Good people won, yet they'd also get a big fuck you from the universe at times instead. The action was enjoyable as were the Fafners. I loved the ballistic missiles housing equipment. The Festum are some of my favorite types of mysterious aliens. They had that creepy human/robotic look and took in egyptian designs as well. It's the Angel/whatever they were called in Argento Soma archetype which I'm a sucker for, but handled with way more lore than usual. The goddamn worldbuilding too, it tied into why I kept watching. I was always filled with questions and any time I got answers I had a whole new stack of questions to go with it. I loved the pilots, kids that are so damn easy to screw up. I loved central command. Shit I loved the sorta alium hybrid super powerful child girl. I loved the old lady! I really liked Soushi, best boy, why'd he have to suffer so much.

I just had such a great time. Maybe I'm gushing too much or overreacting but it all clicked so well for me. It hit all the right spots.

My favorite detail is how she completely reinvents her piloting style after getting blown out by the Scarab and Nicht.

It's never explicitly stated, you just suddenly realize she never locks herself in place anymore and instead prioritizes high mobility and fast movement.

Daman's release is just okay for the most part, but they have an issue where they never allow two layers of subtitles at once. Like if there are subtitles translating a sign or document, no dialogue subtitles will appear if someone starts talking. Why doesn't Canon's SDP have her become more gaunt or shallow in figure because she loses so much mass from jumping into the future besides jumping into the future as a side-effect? For example, there's Mimika's ball-ness/shields, Reo was losing his body due to holes/ teleporting, Rina's sleepiness, Sui's heaviness, ETC. Wasn't it Orihime that said that the Island would protect their minds but not their bodies?

There's some interesting theoretical physics that a person is not their mass at any given point, but instead they are that mass converted into pure energy. Basically a corollary of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, if you care to look up more. Yumiko (and Emery as we found out) were both brought back by the wishes of powerful Esperanto, and it clearly showed. Yumiko was a very different person before and after, even if her love for Miwa still got through.

Seri was exactly the same as before, had SDP side effects like the rest of the pilots, and wasn't on any kind of time limit like those two. Tatsumiya's Mir can't just bring people back to life at will, most probably can't except special cases like with Miwa involved.

But we might just have to agree to disagree. Yeah that shot of the cockpit looks bad, and believe me I was wailing when I thought Seri died, but it just doesn't add up with what we know of Mir. She doesn't line up with either Yumiko and Emery, OR Soushi and Kazuki, the only ways we know Mir can save people's lives. If it was the case, personally, I think the show would have made more noise about it. That's not something there would be any need to keep ambiguous, especially in 26.

But then where in the world did Kouyou manage to bullshit up the poison power from? And why did no other Festum use that? The SDPs all take one specific Festum power and push it to its natural extreme, as far as we can tell. So all Festum have "Super Dimensional Power", yes, but you're right that Kouyou and Kurusu still got some kind of "gift" from the island. My theory is that those two might have had those powers to some extent already, but their Fafner-born SDP boosted them enough to be noteworthy.

In the novel where everyone had random mutant abilities, Maya was hyper-observant and could pick things up from the tiniest details. I wouldn't put it past Tow to have referenced that.

Rina goes on to say she'll shoot more than before. So it made it sound as if they were separate things. Maybe Akira was just saying he'd take the assimilation strain on himself, and it's some property of the Nibelung system in the Zero that lets him isolate the assimilation factor to a single pilot.
I actually kinda suspect that maybe he and Maya hadn't been home long enough to develop any SDP. I know Canon and Sakura got SDPs when they sortie for the first time, but they had been on the island for a decent chunk of time (maybe a little over a month) since the Gordian Crystals started growing. Considering what we know about the island's Mir influencing the islanders via the air, maybe Sakura and Canon were already "primed" so to speak. Same thing with Kenji. Regarding Kouyou, he doesn't whip out his big sword until he crosses with the island. Given what we know about how rapidly Festum exchange information, I think the island just buffed his already prodigious powers. Still mad we didn't get to see the gigantic blue ayy lmao in actual combat.

I definitely took that as taking the assimilation strain from her. That's why Rina was so against it, Akira just got out of a near-coma from assimilation, and the Zero is much worse than Zehn.

Also the Zero had to be healed by Kenji's Troopers, so.

Your idea about them not developing would make sense, but this scene seems to indicate otherwise, both of the twins are amplifying Zero's power.

Just finished Exodus. Man, fuck Hester.
Her blatant plot armour a mile thick was consistently frustrating. I can't stand the plot device of "slaughter mooks, leave leader alive". Michael and Domon had plenty of chances and yet they kept killing everybody in the room but her. Then Toumi kills Fafner pilots but leaves Hester alive. Quite annoying.

Akira's is identical to Rina's, power amplification. The taking on Rina's assimilation was a system feature rather than his ability. He was simply re-routing all assimilation feedback into him alone to save Rina instead of sharing it since she was out cold.

Maya's mostly seemed like super eyesight and spatial awarness, turning her into even more of a super soldier.

Kurusu's was just simply predictive precognition + bullet time.

Think it was implied Mark Raison had a super SDP at the end as well since it had it's own personal core and Gordian crystal to itself hence why it was stomping everyone single handedly. Simply being a super prototype wouldn't have been enough to pull all that off.

The Tatsumiya SDPs are granted by the Mir's own free will, but the Atlantis Core basically had Vagrant as his puppet, Vagrant itself didn't have a say in anything. With everything Raison did like the light assimilation, the worm discs, and those worm dart things, it felt more like a remote avatar for Vagrant if anything.

The Atlantis core, Mark Raison and Vagrant had by then become the same being, you're probably right but Mark Raison was more of a puppet than an avatar.

At the point Mark Nicht finally broke through the blockade ambushing and destroying Vagrant the Atlantis core also died with it. Almost immediately the Atlantis Gordian crystal mass in the atmosphere reacted and Mark Raison weakened enough for Kazuki to exorcise it. It felt sorta like since the core had died the super SDP it granted was severed too.

Not definite. The fact of the matter is that Gregory still fucking appeared and dragged Jonathan out into space after Vagrant was destroyed. His mass of Gordion Crystals is still in tact and Gregory though having control of Vagrant, was also independent of Vagrant.

That whole relationship is honestly pretty confusing, especially since as an audience we only knew about it in the last few episodes.

The core reacted pretty badly when Vagrant was killed, but he showed up a few minutes later still, throwing a tantrum when Jonathan broke free from the mind control. So technically he might not even be dead, maybe he's a part of that Gordian mass.

Vagrant's core brings up some questions though anyway. When we first saw the Atlantis core boy, he was stuck in Wadatsumi's chunk of the Seto Inland Sea Mir, but that was assimilated when he broke free. When that was assimilated did it become Vagrant's normal Azazel-type core that Soushi crushed? Or did Vagrant have two "cores" before that?

Someone just needs to sit Tow down for a long conversation about some of these late-season plot threads.

If there's a sequel, how long would the time skip have to be this time? Not just two years, I'm assuming?

Mir Cores are distinct from Azazel-types, but just barely. Mk. Raison is also a different entity, just controled by one of Atlantis's "fingers"

It actually only stopped all four people in one assault, and I can totally believe a Salvator Powered AEGIS with a Festum Barrier slapped in can stop four super Fafners. After that assault all four of the Fafners fighting it split off, and while it was stronger than Sein, I'm not sure that it was significant enough.
