Pacing for the Brewers and Dort arcs were too slow, I agree, but the characters were developed in ways that stayed within their character. That Mika was cold and professional isn't anything new, and it seems like this guy thinks that if you are mad you must be screaming like a banshee high on crack. Mika made it clear he was mad and his decisions are made solely on his emotions. He's just that efficient at stomping grunts. Orga coming off as a weak leader was because the guy who normally kept him in check just died and he blamed himself for it and Mika's just goading him on and manipulating his insecurities that he needs to appear cool in front of Mika to force them all on the warpath. It's accurately portraying a bunch of hormonal teenage soldiers with no family going on a rampage when one of their own got killed. It isn't the best way to solve the problem but you can't fault them for thinking that way.

It's chill and slow and I like a lot of it and the basic premise is great, but it's just dull.
Everthing going on NOW should have been hinted at in fucking ep 3.

Like Gundam frames. We get told they aren't so great, but then everyone we see is stupid powerful than anything else. Also despite there being only a small number apparently literally anyone can get their hands on them, you are some random space pirate in the middle of no where? Easy find apparently. And seeing as even small groups like Tekkadan can get their hands on one and easily challenge ghorn why has no one else ever done that? It makes the world feel small and not really living, nothing happens anywhere until the cast arrive. Dort workers just needed to do one small revolt and have one speech and they get equal rights, apparently this just wasn't tried until now.

It's not like these are plot holes, people can and have made excuses for the dumbest shit in IBO like Carta being dragged away from the dinosaw, but it is just bad writing

You almost get a feeling that they were trying to ape 0079 having them fuck around in space so long to make the journey to Earth seem really long and not without sacrifice. But they fucked it all the fuck up by having everything that happens in space utterly uncompelling and failing to make any of the protagonists likable to the point where people are rooting for one dimensional shitters are Carta and Ein.

You know, I see a lot of arguing about which is more disappointing, which is shittier, this or AGE. To be honest, both shows have the same problems. An intriguing world and history that is completely squandered through lack of exploration. Most of the content delivered through hamhanded exposition. Characters that never change or grow and only act because the plot demands it,. Shit buildup and/or shit conclusions so bad it's like the shows betray their own characters. You can discuss how Zeheart is the worst written Char of all time or how AGE was shit but IBO is boring, which is worse, all the live long day, but in the end it doesn't really matter.

Honestly, I'm just glad something is happening. Because this show blueballed me with absolutely fucking nothing happening for 15 episodes, to the point where, at the end of the season, I feel like it's just begun. I feel like everything happening now should have happened in episode 15, or 20 at the latest. I eagerly await the next episode, just because I know Ein will job, and he will job in a disappointing fashion, but at least it's something.

Almost no one is saying that. It's still a pretty solid show even if people on /m/ like to shit on it. It has it's problems, but so far it's been the most enjoyable Gundam series I've seen in a long time, and feels like a nice break from the 'maximum weeb' syndrome of some of the other series recently.

I asked for a down to earth, gritty action show, and I got one, for the most part. There aren't many that get made, and unless it's something god awful like FLAG, I'll pretty much take what I can get. Not every anime is going to be 0079, LOGH, GitS, or Area 88.

Where were you guys until literally yesterday? Did you get tired of trying to defend anything that happened in space? Look, you can still enjoy it but IBO isn't a well put-together anime. All the IBO bashing is beyond ridiculous. It's one thing to point out a show's flaws, but /m/ is going rabid as shit like we're on /v/ where everyone has been positively starved of something they can enjoy tearing apart just for the sake of tearing it apart and shitposting about how everything ever is awful.

The biggest problem with IBO is it's slow build up. If that's the worst problem an anime can have, that's a pretty good sign, given the giant ocean of shovelware 'action' anime that has been released every year since the beginning of anime as a whole.

What cracks me up is it's flat out better than a great deal of Gundam shows like Wing or G.

The problem is that while IBO hits a lot of interesting notes in its world-building (and some I've longed for for years), it hasn't done much of anything with its story. It outright squandered episodes on repetitious dialogue and minor story arcs that were dragged out far longer than they had any reason to be. It's made for a largely unmemorable show, despite being so well-grounded in other areas.

It's a likable show, but it's often also a very meandering, ponderous show. I wouldn't say it's THE worst (certain things like SDGF get my vote there), but it's certainly near the bottom. G and Wing were both far more action-packed and far more memorable than anything IBO has done.

Shit anime will always be released and it will pander to the people who buy tons of moeshit. This has been going on since the 80s. It was always mindless shit. Time allows us to filter and forget the shit so you don't remember it.

Hahaha. No. There is a gap 20 episodes wide that is filled with nothing of substance. That's not a slow build up. Even if it was, the reward is hardly worth it when it's Ein (that guy who liked Crank from Mars, also he fought alongside Garma twice), side character Job Squad here to get killed for muh drama, Mika "people literally didn't consider me a main character for most of the series and have only been restored as one since Biscuit's death", Orga "Aniki what do, Aniki pls halp", the Terrible Turbine Travesty haremship - which reminds me, IBO has had the most waifu-bait LN-tier romantic subplot in all of Gundam, barring only Build Fighters Try - Brewers and CGS people being literally hitlers or space hogs/space mimes, the lack of characterization for a long time...

I could go on but really what you call a slow build up is actually just writers dropping the ball for most of the shoe's run.

They portray poverty better than most series have, as far as depicting a litter-strewn ghetto or outright showing brothels and homeless people, or having actual grime on the interior walls of a reclaimed ship. Building a lot of the backstory of kids having to sell themselves to various services. Having different factions have their own unique weapon sets, but without giving every model its own unique rifle. Avoiding the MOTW thing and having military mechs feel spartan and utilitarian. Having the PMC having to find backers or sell off salvage, even (for a little bit) having persisting damage on the main Gundam until it could get proper supplies and repair.

Also really digging the lack of beam weapons, where things take a lot of hits to get chipped away at, rather than blown up in a flash of pink.
