You are correct, however, that the Turn A design was not influential. No element of its design was ever copied by any later Gundam designer.
Tomino did pull the MLB out of mothballs (or at least an attack that looked a lot like it) during G-Reco, but that's literally the only thing about the Turns that has ever been copied, and a writer referencing his own works hardly counts as "influential".

Yeah I don't like the new shoulders. If you look closely at the curvature of the original Turn A's chest and shoulders, there's a continuous flow from one shoulder to the other. The blocky shoulders kill that, and don't look great with how curvy the rest of the machine is.
