You have to understand that the russian revolution was the result of the Czar Nicholas II screwing over the people again and again and keep doing things to make them angry.

First, they lost a war to Japan that in all reality they would have won in a month if they didn't surrender. And this wasn't another European empire defeating them, it was Japan. Not to mention that it was an unpopular war to begin with because Russia was not prepared for a long walking war all the way over on the other side of Asia. So all of that's a major blow to the Czar's popularity and to the government as a whole.

Yes, if they had held out longer. Japan was fighting an amazing string of victories, but it completely annihilated their nation's supplies for the military as a result. If Russia decided to just keep fighting another month, Japan simply wouldn't have any resources to keep fighting with and Russia could force a surrender out of them.
