I was thinking about sentai shit today and was wondering if any of you could explain to me. I don't really get how Power Rangers and its usage of footage/props from Super Sentai works. Do they take footage directly? Or do they just take all the same stuff used to film and do what they need with it?

I was under the impression that the Green Ranger they used for MMPR was from a different Sentai series entirely than the one they got the rest of the material from, so did they just film new scenes with him alongside the rest of the team?

A lot of the first season of MMPR was taken from Zyuranger, which you'd notice exactly which scenes were directly copied from if you watch it.
Actually the White ranger was Kibaranger from the series after Zyuranger, Dairanger which was never completely adapted into its own power rangers safe for using their monsters and mecha.
Interestingly enough Saban actually got Toei to film extra scenes using the Zyuranger suits to be used specifically for Power Rangers

As for Green Ranger, he's from Zyuranger, like the others. White Ranger is from the following season Dairanger, so maybe that's where you got that idea.

None of the ones I've finished, I guess? A lot of factors go into making a solid plot. I haven't watched that many shows to completion (Hurricanger, Kyoryuger, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, and Ninninger, in that order), and I really haven't found one with a wholly satisfying plot and ending. That's not really why I watch Sentai though to be fair, so your mileage may vary. I still love the characters, the fighting, the monsters, the mechs, etc. of every show I've watched thus far.

I been to japan and it's true, I've seen more sentai and kamen rider related things in japan then anything else.

I saw a ultraman here and there; hell even heard someone talk about it while I was in tokyo tower.

We're not talking about presence. We're talking about the term toku. From my experience in Japan, of course this is entirely anecdotal, folks there were just as likely to associate Ultraman and godzilla/kaiju films with tokusatsu. And among the actual toku fans they don't think of toku as Kamen Rider/Super Sentai. But in the English speaking community of toku fans you'll find they mostly watch Kamen Rider/Super Sentai and when talking about toku they're specifically only referring to those series. A lot of fans here consider Kaiju films a completely seperate thing and not toku as well. There is a disconnect between what is toku between english and japanese fans

There are multiple genres of toku. Sentai/Rider/etc are part of the "hero" genre, while Ultra/Godzilla/etc are part of the "kaiju" genre. And then there's "sci-fi" like Message From Space, and so on.

The issue is that most westerners use "toku" as a synonym for hero shows only.

Amiami, but for sentai DX toys you have to be ridiculously fast with them, as they sell out almost instantly.
Mandarake has the best selection out of everywhere, and recently they got rid of their 500 yen charge on orders below 5000 yen, so they're even better now.
Nippon-Yasan is pretty much the only place left to get P-Bandai stuff from at a decent-ish price (CSToys offers P-Bandai stuff, but at an insane mark up).
CSToys are pretty decent for gashapon and candy toy versions if you don't want DX.
And HLJ I haven't bothered with, and they seem to have a split rep over in the toku thread on /toy/, some people have no issues with them, others have had orders cancelled for no reason.

You already know about Jungle. So the only one left really is Hobby Search/1999.co.jp/en They're pretty much the same as amiami and HLJ, but they are often times slightly more expensive, but very infrequently they are much cheaper than everywhere.

as a Gobus fan I can definitely see why other people here and elsewhere would get defensive of it, as it came out after a much-beloved series which was in stark contrast with it, which meant that while there were a few of us who were enjoying it, people were busy comparing it to the previous show and not satisfying what they expected out of a sentai show. As a result, there's a lot of defensiveness and trying to justify the show, because I could see us thinking "you're just not getting the show!!!"

Here it's also compounded by the glut of information pointing out how it wasn't selling, which is such an easy way to start shitposting a show. There's also all the retool nonsense being thrown around by people (thanks to lynxara's podcast mostly) along with Akibaranger popularizing the concept of it, which makes us fans salty because hey, we actually enjoyed the show, retools and all.

Gobus is just in a really shitty place timeline-wise because there are a LOT of factors that contributed to it being seen negatively
