I feel like this series has enough giant robots in it at this point that it can be called /m/. Who else thinks so?

Cold Steel II's dubbing should be starting soon apparently.

I recently finished Trails in the Sky SC (solid 8/10 game) and am about to move on to Cold Steel.

I'm not quite sure I understand Weissmann's plan though. So he planned to use the Aureole to somehow remake all of humanity into the ubermensch or whatever, but how exactly would he do that with the Aureole's capabilities? We're shown that the Aureole can bend space, read minds, and create the most bitchin' of VR experiences, but none of that seems particularly relevant to evolving mankind into a race of infinitely wise and infinitely rational beings.

About the Reverie that served as the final boss of FC. In FC it powers up, announces that it's searching for intruders, and then attacks you, but Celeste's records indicated that the Reverie was an intruder, not a guard as its monologue suggested. Writing inconsistency?

What happened to the Aureole itself? Apparently it teleported away after we beat up Weissmann but where did it go to?

And on a related note were Weissmann and Loewe literally the only named characters to die in the course of the entire story?
>>
>>13938133
As shown in one of the star doors in 3rd, #14 I think, there's a translation on YouTube, the Aureole was captured by Weissman's staff and taken by Campanella back to Ouroboros' Grandmaster

>>

Yeah. You basically have Divine Knight Battles as a sort of monster of the week thing, and they changed the mechanics of them so that they're more fun and you have way more options in combat. Valimar even basically gets its own theme song that plays every time he's summoned.

The robot stuff in Sen II is basically a big love letter to mecha stuff, the game incorporates them in a really straightforward and fun way.

As far as games in English go if you exclude CS there is a sample size of exactly one to indicate that, and even Sky FC had something like a proper and interesting narrative arc that built up, climaxed, and concluded satisfactorily. CS has a bunch of school trips of the week that happens to mention every now and again "oh by the way there's an obvious class war coming".

>>13938505

Liberl actually lost their air superiority as of Zero/Ao/CS. CS shows that Erebonia already has substantial air power.
>>
>>13950585
Queen Alicia's foreign policy reminds me of the world leaders who thought the best way to deal with Hitler was to make him sign a piece of paper promising not to be a bad boy. It reminds me of the anti-nuke idealogues who think their country will still be taken seriously on the world stage if they trash their nukes.

Instead of giving away the engine of the Arseille they could have instead used it to construct the equivalent of the XB-70 Valkyrie, a bomber that can fly so high and so fast that nothing can intercept it. So if Erebonian tanks roll through Haken Gate, Heimdallr would be a smoking ruin within hours.
>>
>>13950808
I'm interpreting it more as Liberl making the situation be that invading them will be a net loss, since the invader would lose access to valuable technology. Also attacking Heimdallr wouldn't just end the war, in a battle of attrition Erebonia would win and everything would just escalate horribly.
>>
>>13950808
A deterrent only works if you have actual weapons of mass destruction to enforce it with. Which they do not. A high speed bomber could maybe flatten a few city blocks, it wouldn't be enough to turn the whole Empire into a parking lot which is the kind of destruction you'd really need to win against what is effectively Magitech Russia with some German flavoring.
>>
>>13951123
Though oddly Heimdallr reminds me of London in some ways, mainly the brick buildings, river port, and of course the pubs selling fish and chips.
>>
>>13938526
The oral canon is not real though.
>>
>>13951361
Orbal cannon.
>>
>>13951123
I'm pretty sure erebonia is based off of Prussia and has some Russian flavoring.
>>
>>13951375
The reason I said Russia in that context is because of the sheer size of it.
>>
>>13951361
It was real enough when I called in a laser strike on Renne and Pater-Mater.
>>
>>13951398
Anon that was what the creators said. Millium gets a similar attack as well.
>>
>>13951410
So, what, the satellite cannon is just an abstract representation of some other unspecified Tita S-craft? Tita is crazy and only thinks she has a space laser?
>>
>>13951419
Maybe it's something that was temporarily brought into a temporary existence by her battle orbment and will. Considering it only takes out a small group of monsters at a time and the fact it doesn't work during the orbal shutdown but her gun S-craft does, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
Whatever the case, Falcom did confirm that the people in Kiseki world can't shoot Satellites into space.
>>
>>13951419
>Tita is crazy
Was this not apparent from the first moment she showed up? Bitch is like eight years old and already more or less a full-fledged mad scientist.
>>
>>13951433
>her gun S-craft does
That's because it runs on gunpowder, remember? Hell, that was a notable plot point in the academy raid segment. Conventional firearms do exist in Kiseki, they're just never used because they're typically shit compared to orbal tech.
>>
>>13951456
I know that. I am just saying that battle orbment will do weird shit like that.
>>
>>13950585
But all they have is airships, if someone were to just invent a proper one- or two-man air superiority fighter they could sweep the skies with ease.
>>
>>13951456
>typically shit compared to orbal
Only from a logistical perspective surely because Tita's Gatling gun isn't really underpowered.
>>
>>13951486
Working off the assumption that the small personnel carriers we see use one or two engines, wouldn't there need to be serious minaturisation to get down to a fighter like that? The Bobcat is the closest we see, but it's closer to a WW2 style bomber in its armament, at least as it's shown in the 3rd.
>>
Make Erebonia great again
>>
>>13951517
Didn't we see a couple of specimens of the Arseille's engine on a pallet being transported during chapter 3 of SC? They weren't all that big.
>>
>>13951545
The core engines maybe, I'm just thinking about all the support systems, fuel sources etc.
>>
>>13951501
Mostly from a logistical perspective, but they do mention that old-school guns tend to be somewhat weaker. Tita's gun is just so absurdly oversized that the decreased power doesn't really matter.
>>
>>13950808
London was raided by Zeppelins during WW1 and they didn't exactly throw down their arms and asked the Kaiser to pls marry their queen either.
>>
>>13951776
That's because those zeppelins didn't have payload big enough to flatten the whole city.
>>
>>13950808
>>13950585
Liberl was so fucking naive, third world shit country. I hope Osborne RAILED them.
>>
>>13954719
Nah, he's mostly after Crossbell, which is both bigger and more strategically important.
>>
>>13950808
You are forgetting about Calvard.

Liberl has a pact with the Republic. If Erebonia invades they'll be fighting a war on two fronts.

And personally I don't think trying to avoid war is naive. Erebonia is not nearly as evil as Hitler.
>>
>>13935186
Are they ever gonna make a plain, straight-up mecha game? A sidescroller with the gameplay of Assault Suits Valken and classic Falcom music would be balls to the wall awesome.
>>

His favorite character is Millium because
>my fiancee (a feisty redhead) manages to act EXACTLY LIKE HER when she's feeling hyperactive. The hotel scene where she's bouncing on me to wake me up was hilarious and realistic because I was so 'connected' to that anguish that I was actually asked to dial back the emotion a little - I was being TOO real for a JRPG!

On JRPGs
>I can see you're a Radiant Historia guy, but I'm an Eternal Sonata guy myself. Good music just gets me going in a way probably best reserved for explanation at an 18+ panel.

On the /v/ thread he posted in
>/v/ tends to hate people who seem full of themselves, but if it's clear you don't take anything super seriously (especially your own game/role) they can be pretty darn forgiving.

On his work for Ys Celceta
>100% true fact: the entire time I was recording for Gruda, I held a Hyrule Historia book in my hand. It helped me remain "intelligent and refined" while also being a sadistic bastard.

On why he works
> Fun, fun, funfunfunfunfunfun above all else. I would have recorded the extra stuff for Rean pro bono if I had to, and I think it's really stupid that the Union actively discourages/punishes actors for wanting to still do non-union work once they're in the union. I plan to ignore that; if/when I join the Union I will be turning around and immediately putting a pseudonym to use, because I have ALWAYS cared more about the role than the money. I got into this career because I love entertaining people, I love seeing their reactions, I love geeking out about stuff with all of you. Money is for spoiling my S/O; this career is for spoiling the rest of you.

Most of the class ends up working for Osborne by the end of Sen 2. Laura and Gaius just go back to their homes to be autistic, Fie joins up with the bracers to fight against Osborne, everyone else ends up helping Osborne directly or indirectly (like Alisa taking over the Reinford company so she can sell weapons to be used on Crossbell like her mother did).

Is there any reason why Osborne is even attackin Crossbell ( if i remember setting for Ao right?)

>>
>>13962609
That you shouldn't trust bankers because they're evil and will drag the country down with them in the search of a Sept-Terrion which can alter time and space.
>>
>>13962609
Crossbell declares its independence in Ao/Sen 1. This pisses off Erebonia and Calvard, who both attempt to invade Crossbell in retaliation (including Erebonia firing the railway guns at Crossbell) because they think Crossbell is just some shitty little city-state. Crossbell retaliates with the God Machines from Ao which wipe Garrelia Fortress and both countries' invading armies off the map. Eventually Erebonia ends up occupying Crossbell until they win back their independence a couple years later (according to Ao's ending).
>>
>>13962621
>declares independence
It wasn't already independent?
>>
>>13962626
It was a no-man's land of sorts. Both Erebonia and Calvard felt like it should be part of their country but neither wanted to make a move on it since it would provoke a war with the other. They both basically assumed they have the right to controlling it, but were too pussy to make any moves to do so officially.

Crossbell's four bells are ancient magic voodoo bullshit and have something to do with the Ouroboros master plan, Osborne declares at the end of Sen 2 that he's hijacking their plan.

What the plan actually is is still unknown.
>>
>>13962820
Oh and for some idea of the scale of the Ouroboros plan: In Ao, they sort of make a demigod with the power to rewrite causality and history as a side effect of their plan and they just go "eh whatever we don't need that" and leave.

Alisa seems to be more into the non military products her family's company makes. The real problem with Reinford is that Irina gave the divisions too much autonomy.
>>13962609
Don't believe what >>13962604 says.
None of the class besides Rean works for Osborne. Fie only joins the bracers so she can track other members of her former Jaeger group. Laura trains with her daddy. Gaius goes back to do who knows what. Emma is trying to find out more about the Giant robots. Alisa is training to one day take over the company though it is clear that she is not into making weapons. Milium of course goes back being an agent for Osborne. Jusis is actually trying to take care of his Family's estate since his father has been arrested and his Brother has become the imperial governor of Crossbell.
Machias and Elliot for their part went to different academies than Thors. Elliot transferred to the Music Academy and Machias probably went to some Academia school.

Just started Trails in the Sky, I'm on chapter 2. Not gonna read the thread for fear of spoilers, but am I in for tons more fun? Suffering is fine too.
>>
>>13968284
Some suffering in game 2. No robots until the final chapte of FC. It seems like a normal world with some Schizo tech in Zeiss before that.
>>
>>13968294
Well that's not bad. It's all really fun so far, but I can see why translations take so long.
>>
>>13968312
A lot of the stuff to translate in the games is NPC dialogue. That is what takes so long.
>>
>>13968326
It's my favorite part. By the way, can you get back to Rolent after you head to Bose? They won't let me back through the gate and I want to get home and talk to more NPCs and eat the food I forgot. Do I have to wait until I become a senior bracer or something?
>>
Fuck this gay series
>>
>>13968284
Be prepared for a very slow game with a great climax (that is then followed up by yet another slow burn in the sequel's early chapters.) Just enjoy the comfy hiking journey around Liberl in the meantime.

If you have the patience for it, take the time to talk to NPCs as the story progresses and their lives are affected by the events throughout the story. The continuity and reactivity of NPCs is part of what gives the world its fleshed-out feel. Beware that they won't just stay in their own regions either, especially by the second game some of them make business trips, go on pilgrimages, explore caves, go fishing, get married, open ice cream stores behind their fiancée's back, et cetera. There's a Steam achievement in the second game for following a guy across the course of several chapters as he has an existential crisis.

Of course, a lot of people don't have the patience for that, understandably so. Some recommend can using Cheat Engine's built in speed hack function to make walking and combat faster, it saves on a lot of walking time.

Also if you haven't noticed yet for whatever reason the first game has Easter Eggs if you inspect empty treasure chests.
>>
>>13968339
Nope once you've passed through the gate you're not getting back until the second game.
>>
>>13968368
The easter egg treasure chests are due a programming oversight by Falcom. Because every treasure chest has a seperate "It's empty" message instead of just linking them all to the same "It's empty".
XSEED people noticed this and decided to add in joke messages for when the treasure chest just for kicks. Falcom for their part were okay with it. Not like that many people go to read an empty treasure chest.

>>
>>13968368
What really impressed me about the NPC dialogue was the part in SC after the Ark appears and almost every single NPC across the entire country has something to say about it. That's a level of detail that's not often seen in RPGs.
>>
>>13968312
The funny thing is that the major reason why the translation took so long wasn't simply the size of the script but largely because of Andrew Dice at Carpe Fulgur, who fell well behind schedule on the translation because he was stewing in his own lack of self worth instead of working.

Then lied to XSEED for months about how much he'd gotten done and tried to kill himself instead of doing the professional, responsible thing of removing himself from the project on medical grounds.

Then when XSEED finally said enough is enough and took the project back from them, they had to spend two months manually copying and pasting thousands of lines because Dice had fucked up the script formatting.

Then they had to spend more time fixing all his terminology fuckups because he apparently couldn't be bothered to check the previous game for examples of how certain terms should be translated.

The rest of the project they finished off themselves, they actually did in fairly reasonable time. That they're getting Cold Steel and Cold Steel II out within a year of each other while simultaneously working on Senran Kagura and Bokujo Monogatari and Nitroplus Blasters demonstrates they can work at a reasonable place when they are doing it themselves.
>>
>>13968480
Ow. If you know the story behind the localisation, that one just hurts.
>>
>>13968529
Yeah, it's a real shame. Was Carpe Fulgur usually that slow? I'd heard they did a good enough job with...Recettear, I think? Was that Andrew, or someone else?
>>
>>13968368
>open ice cream stores behind their fiancée's back
Took me a while to figure out who this guy was.

I think the first thing that stood out to me how much thought they'd put into the NPC settings was how early on in Bose various NPCs kept alluding to somebody called Mirano, and just going through their dialogues I'd built up an adequate picture of her character as a shrewd businesswoman in a rivalry with her own father and who holds enough power that the mayor often consults her for advice, long before I actually met her for the first time where I walked into the mayor's office and she happened to be there.
>>
>>13968552
Carpe Fulgur is composed of two people, Dice and one other guy. Recettear's script size is also peanuts compared to Sora SC.
>>
>>13968529
Seeing this make me wonder if there is anyone other top tier translation/localization companies

Said fan is some kind of insane Nightwolve fanboy who decided to ignore all the (Falcom-approved) XSEED's official terminology on purpose, asked his translators to give him as literal a translation as possible so he can do his own editing on it afterwards, and has gone on record that if XSEED wants his script he would demand $200,000 for each of his team members. Then Nightwolve showed up in the forum thread and a couple of days later it was locked.

>>
>>13987584
Only real /m/ content of the first one is airships and the final boss . The first Trails in the Sky starts off very slowly, building up. Most of the interest is in just how enormous and complex the world is, the NPCs having their own lives and subplots. If you like story driven RPGs and have a certain degree of patience, then I'd recommend getting it.
Also be aware that if you get to the end of the first game you will be buying the second game almost immediatly because that cliffhanger

If I recall, XSEED mentioned a while back that both Zero and Ao are possible, though not necessarily likely, candidates for localization.

Both have PC ports (which is where the translation, if any, would be happening), though if memory serves the Ao PC port was chinese or something.

It's translating from the Chinese version, in other words it's literally Duwang.

>>13990078
Since he hasn't credited an editor and the English is passable, presumably the guy who did the Youtube videos knows both Chinese and English well enough to translate from one to the other.
This of course says nothing about the quality of the official translation from Japanese to Chinese.

SC did get pretty crazy toward the end, but honestly I don't think it leaves you hanging as hard as the first game did.

Pretty satisfying ending, though. After how mad I was with Weissman at the end of FC, I was immensely pleased to see that SC ended with the asshole himself being the salty one.

I really hoped that Loewe would escape the obvious death flags. It wasn't even that I liked him that much, it was just that killing him seemed like too obvious a thing to do. But alas, it was not to be.
>>
>>14001211
>tfw in the next game Kevin goes to hell and Weissman is just chilling out there and the demons are his cronies
>>
>>14001217
It's slightly more complex than that It's yet another part of the illusion, this part specifically made to make Kevin give up on emotions and take over as the Lord of Phantasma, powering it with his Stigma. Doesn't make that entire section any less deeply disturbing (fuck that bit with the kid...)

SC was crazy towards the end but it was a fairly complete wrap up, it doesn't just drop a bombshell then cut to credits.
>>
>>14001237
