By Heisei standards, Eiji's background is kinda grim. Only a few other RIders have some genuinely unpleasant or fucked up backstories - Blade's parents died in a fire and he blames himself for it daily and Wizard only became Wiard because of experiencing extreme despair during the Sabbath which nearly killed him. I wouldn't call it flailing. In the debut fight in particular (I can't say the same for the other fights), Takeru was displaying some really precise blocking and timing together with really small, swift movements. They look almost reactionary, but I believe they have to be premeditated due to how efficiently he stopped all of Javert's attacks, along the amount of time we see Boost staring at him.

Even after he busts out the Sunglasseslasher, he still makes wide, controlled swings, completely unlike Kenzaki's Blay Rouser shenanigans.
