I personally find Lyle to be a pretty poorly executed character, but not inherently because of his status as Lockon MK II. Stuff like his relationship with Anew feeling pretty inconsequential despite being such a big part of his character since it was so massively underdeveloped or the way they set up his fights in the last battle making zero sense when considering the rest of the his development (he's the brother that doesn't hold onto grudges but let's have him fight the guy who killed his brother anyway because why the fuck not we have no idea what we're doing with Prince Ali this season anyway) annoyed me a lot more than him being an identical twin, for example.

I thought the base idea of people even in-series treating him as a replacement because they essentially unconsciously thought of the original Lockon as a figure rather than an actual person was pretty interesting, the issue is just that they don't dedicate enough screentime to developing him or making him feel different (something that shows with people constantly complaining about him being a clone despite his significant differences that do exist, they're just underdeveloped).
