What is it with Gundams from Build Fighters onwards having lazy fucking upgrades? We used to get brand new suits midway through the series, and now we just get a new backpack or slightly different armor/colour separation. Are Bandai just being lazy fucking cunts with their gunpla runners or what? Age must've been an even bigger failure than I thought

This. G-Reco and BF had far lower expectations placed on them, from getting weaker timeslots to the different types of merchandise (you couldn't buy mini-towels with Aida or Sei). They weren't expected to be the next SEED or 00, while IBO is. FFS, they secured a dub deal just as it began airing and had HGs on the streets before that.

They want this thing to go but it isn't. Even if it sells better than G-Reco, it's still going to be the one considered a failure.

Thats pretty common now actually. Its part of the whole timing gunpla releases to cash in on the hype train thing bandai has been doing since AGE. The lead gundam is released before the first episode and the series grunt quickly follows it. Pretty sure build strike, AGE-1, and build burning were all released before their series started.

The thing is, it is easy to explain why; gunpla sell according to how cool they are IN-show. This is why, normally, when ever you have a new mobile suit showing up, you see it win a fight somehow, somewhere. Against a grunt or even several grunts, is fine. But it needs to do something cool. This despite the fact that it might die in the same episode to the protagonist and is never seen again. In order to sell Gunpla, the kit had to have done at least one thing that was impressive. Just having it in the background won't do. And just giving it a Gundam head won't do either. Protagonist gunpla sells not because they are gundams but because the protagonists do cool things by default.

An example is the Tieren of 00 Gundam. The Tieren are basically grunts, but the first time you see them, they were crushing the much more out of date predecessors in battle. So despite the fact that the Tieren never beat any Gundams, they still had one win on-screen.

The real question, for me at least, is how he was using Fumitan that whole time. What leverage did he have on her? Who was she before being reduced to Jew-Hime's maid? She was clearly skilled at a series of technical shit, so she's not a nobody. Furthermore, I'd like clarifications on exactly when Kudelia did her little talk and how that fits into the overall timeline. She was a little girl when Fumitan showed up, but Fumitan is McMurdo's tool.... so does that mean Kudelia did her speech when she was, like, twelve? Also, if she did her speech that early, why did McMurdo take so long to have her killed? Fumitan says she was going to leave her to die in that slum - so why didn't she? What benefit was there back then? Why wait all this time for the elaborate Gjallarhorn hit-job? How was the hit on Mars actually supposed to incite a rebellion when CGS was out in butt-fuck? Who was ever going to know?

I'm honestly fine with every single part of this story that has nothing to do with Kudelia.

Well there are images of Kudelia doing the big speech at what looks like the same age, we can say it is in some space of a year. Her interest seems to have started with that book and then the walk around the slums. This means Kudelia must have had an interest since that time or had a huge break in between, possibly because she got scared. The second is more likely given her ignorance.

There is no way he could have known about this, at best we could assume he has some contact with the family (maybe business) so at best may have heard she was into all that when her parents were saying how wonderful there kid is (what rich families do). If she did not pursue the interest for so many years he would have had no way of knowing until at best she started up again. So to be generous the earliest he would have known is a little before her speech or heard an off hand comment when she was little.

Fumitan can therefore not have been a plant from the beginning, simply does not make sense. Now it isn't elaborated on but she seems to have been some level of poor and must have lived in the slum at some point. How she got from there to flash back to present is not elaborated on at all. Leaving Kudelia then seems to have been more motivated by a dislike of the rich/ignorant, though I really can't imagine she was properly going to abandoned her as she'd probably get lynched by the family. It also seems completely unfair to call a 7 year old ignorant about the deeper socio-economic issues. The fact she wants to help is very good and she could nurture and encourage it instead, help her do a bake sale. She seems to dislike the current way things are but exact ideas are not clear. It again makes more sense for Kudelia not to have kept up her ambition of helping here as it could cause a growing resentment. This would make sense then why she could be pulled into the plot to kill her later.

You'd think she'd be proud that Kudelia had finally stood up and started to act. She was being the maiden in the book, instead of try to kill her help.

The problem is Fumi's unclear ideals, We have no idea how she really feels about the issue thus her betrayal seems odd. This is made worse by Kudelia making no change in how she is (exposing more ignorance really) yet now Fumi decides that she is worth saving. Also what can fat old guy give her? Money would be the most logical but she likely has made a good sum with a very stable job, War will make mars a worse place to live and may make the money worthless. Plus the poor are the most likely to suffer so does she actually want to help them.

Maybe though she is also being ignorant and has not thought it through. Why does she hate Kudelia so much? We hate her for the whole useless kick she is currently on but that was caused by current events. When she first arrived she seemed like a very normal girl, the only sort of snooty thing was no respecting some will be put off by their class difference. That isn't really snooty though, Kudelia seems like a nice enough person and she always treated Fumi well.

Fumitan is an incredibly weak character who seems to have only acted out of ignorant spite, and I only wrote all this as Street Fighter V isn't out yet and I'm bored.

Take greco, a lot of people act dumb in that series but it has a point. A huge repeated conflict is people using to much force with machines they don't understand around the towers/colonies which tries causes accidents. Their ignorance serves the purpose of how hard life in space is and to show how dangerous these machines are. This again links back to how mistakes in the past were made with this technology and how terribly it all could have been if everyone had the G-type suits. The ignorance serves a purpose on multiple levels defining characters, world and themes

What does Fumitan being ignorant mean? It means the story can have a moment where is sucks of Kudelia for not really having done anything and give the 95th chance for her to change. Nothing is nicely built up here, no interesting point is made but to now place in a block saying Kudelia is now great and people like her. Nothing is built up in IBO you just get blocks of what happens.
