2 is fine. It tried to follow the spirit of the original. The plot was a bit too familiar but other than that it's good. There were no other movies beyond 2.

>American Jesus
Did you know that Paul Verhoeven's a biblical scholar and he wrote a book on the life of Jesus?
>>
The first Robocop is great. When I saw it as a kid, I only remembered the gory violence, but as an adult I see the story of a man losing his humanity and his struggle to regain it. Also, I had seen GaoGaiGar somewhere between those two periods, so rewatching Robocop seeing the parallels between Murphy and Gai was fun.

I was disappointed with Robocop 2 when they backtracked on Murphy's development. Then the rest of the movie was an after school special.
>>
>>13856755
Why wouldn't it be?

Even if Murphy himself didn't count, ED-209 sure as hell does.
>>
>>13856755
I liked the original trilogy, the four cable movies, and the remake.
>>
>>13857175

I forgot about the 2014 movie.

It commits the worst sin a film can make: It's boring. It's really bland, and feels cheap. Nothing about it is in any way memorable. It lacks a villain or much drama for most of it. Everything looks like Toronto which takes me out of the film.

>Hey, I know that corner
>Hey, that's University of Toronto! I walk by there all the time.
>>
>>13860630

3 has a faster pace than 2, so it's actually more watchable. 2 starts out strong, then dithers in the middle before ending strong. 3 just plows ahead.

The film is really stupid, pale immitation of the first film. Despite costing much more it looks cheap as HELL. It is PG-13 and feels like a kid's film. The acting is all around terrible.

The biggest problem is that it's way too goofy. RoboCop driving a Pink pimpmobile kind of thing. Large black man in a child's sailor suit with a giant lollypop.
>>
I watched the 80's cartoon show. It's pretty stupid and fun.

Contains a Geraldo Rivera parody character. I think every 80's cartoon had to take a shot at him at some point.

The quality of the rips are pretty bad. .avi low bit rate.

Someone should look into improving that. The DVD transfers aren't that great, so I don't know how much better we can make it.
>>
>>13860840
>I was disappointed with Robocop 2 when they backtracked on Murphy's development.

Every single sequel does that. They probably have no clue where to go with the story, so they just make him RoboCop again, rather than Murphy.

It's probably a story that shouldn't ever get a sequel because of this. I ignore all of them as non-canon.
>>
>>13860840
If it ever gets subbed, you could possibly look into Jiban. It's essentially a Japanese version of Robocop. In the meantime, the closest thing to that is Winspector, with its episodes about the robot sidekicks dealing with having human emotions.
>>
I actually liked 3. It was lighter and even a bit more campy of a Robocop movie, but still enjoyable.

I never did get what happened to The Old Man and why they had to switch stations though.

2014 was...watchable. Hell I even enjoyed some parts of it like that douchebag soldier Murphy trains/fights against and Michael Keaton's acting.

Now that mid 90s Canadian Robocop show, that shit was so campy and bad it was hilarious and good.

I mean it was still bad, yeah, but it wasn't totally thoughtless.
I understand just how Robocop was trying to modernize the tale, but they didn't really follow through enough.
It had some good ideas and I think it was possible to make a good Robocop remake out of them but they just gave up and made it a generic action flick with dad feels.

Gaban? Jesus, nigga... He's not even a cyborg...

8 man --> The Six Million Dollar Man --> Cyborg 009 --> Robocop --> Jiban --> Robocop 2 --> Rescue Heroes --> Robocop 3.

The fact is: the cyborg cop concept is japanese. Robocop created the genre in cinema for adults, but Jiban make it pretty edgy for a tv kid show, both in style, mobility and firepower.

By the way, Verhoven's Robocop cloned the jetpack and smart gun, and Padilha's Robocop cloned the red visor and motobike... It's a cycle, but - in general - Jiban is still an upgraded version of the old Murphy.

To be honest, I really dislike Robocop's exposed mouth. I understand that it's there to make it visible that there is still a man in there, but it just kinda ruins the design to me. Really wish he had a little removable mask to go over that sometimes, or something.
Not crazy about the slit visor either, it just reminds me of Cyclops.

I kinda like the semi-exposed face. Reminds me of other comic book inspired designs like Batman's cowl and MMPR helmets.
>>
>>13868618
What an odd opinion. Covering the mouth in my opinion would just make it more bland. Now its both a distinction that its a halfman-half robot, elsewise it would just be a robot. Not to mention the warm hue of the skin is a great compliment to the overall cool-coloured pallete of the rest of the body. Its really well designed.

THIS. During the movie, it's more "human" (and better for narrative) see his mouth. However, during action, it's complete dumb. One shot in the middle of his teeth and... bye. Maybe a protection used in action scenes sounds better (and more badass, if well done, like Optimus Prime's mouth opened/closed).

Jesus, man... We all know it, but we are talking about cyborgs taking tons of machinegun bullets in the chest (and probably face) and staying alive. Ordinary human cops will die in any situation.

The "protected mouth" is practical and cool for a cyborg. It's useless for a human, lol.

Apparently getting popped in the mouth is very unlikely since that's exactly what happens in the Robocop. You can claim plot armor, but the first rule of shooting a target is to aim for center mass (torso area). Even people that don't handle guns much instinctively do this.
>>
>>13870475
It's not even really his face, it's synthetic. When they have his former wife come see him (Robocop 2 i think) and he tells her to touch it, she's surprised that it's cold.
Robocop says "They made it....to honor him."
>>

Nigga, that's not the point...

I'm looking those "combat scenes" from mid cinema/tv watcher perspective and you're looking it as a mech addicted. Some one say earlier: "Murphy's mouth is dead material made of metal with shit and blablabla". Jesus, it's a small dialogue line from Robocop 2. Ordinary people who watched Robocop 1 in cinemas don't even knew it... By the way, he eats that baby snot from movie 1 using (theoretically) his mouth, so...

...in essence, what I'm trying to say is simple: the mouth, even for a cyborg like robocop, is one of the few exposed organic parts, without protection. Visually speaking, it's a vulnerable spot, so........ the mouth protection (jiban type, optimus prime type, whatever) is more plausible (tactically speaking) in action scenes.

On the other point, the mouth exposed is better in dialogue scenes. Obviously.

In general, a mix of both (maybe a movable protection, like optimus) could be the best type.

JUST IT.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. I can live without the ultra-violence of the original, but they also didn't match the satirical tone of the Verhoeven films. And personally I didn't like the direction they went with the new one. I don't understand why they kept the hand and but also he starts out knowing he was turned into a robot while the Verhoeven version was more of a machine learning to regain its humanity.
