It's really surprising how much of a consistent theme that's been, if you look closely.

Youji Hino's original idea for the Salvator model was a unit that would keep as many pilots alive as possible, instead of taking out as many enemies as possible. Sein and Nicht both getting Festum makeovers made them assimilation-happy monsters instead, but the intent was there. Later, the data Mjolnir gave Tatsumiya was meant to fulfill the same purpose, by slowing down the pilot assimilation and strengthening defenses against the Festum.

Canon's Einherjar models filled a similar role, to keep pilots going as long as possible, even if the new-style SDP assimilation takes away their human forms.

None of this works perfectly as intended though, there are clearly limits to the technology. But it turns out with Kazuki and Soushi, by changing the pilot instead of the Fafner and making them basically Festum in the process, they really can fight forever by constantly being reborn. This has its own share of downsides of course, but they're the best execution of the idea possible unless Fafner technology makes a few more leaps.

Question for any moon-reading anons, can anyone see what the Atlantis Core was officially credited as in the last few episodes? Specifically episodes after the reveal.

We don't really have a consistent official name for him, say for wiki purposes. He wasn't actually a Gregory-type, and otherwise just has titles. I've seen some call him Prometheus because of the knockoff Valkyrie's Cave, but I'd want to be as official as possible.

I'd assume an actual Gregory-type would be more like the "ghosts" we see around Nicht, harmless leftovers from assimilated humans. He was just assumed to be one since no one would guess "Oh maybe he's the vengeful spirit of another Arcadian Project ship's core hooked up to a powerful Festum because Bartland and Hester are fucking idiots".

This is closer to what I'm saying. Gregory-types are an actual thing, it's just he doesn't quite fit the bill, characters were only assuming based on the knowledge they had.

He's definitely not actually a Master-type though, I don't know where you're getting the idea that he's a Festum taking on someone's form. From what we know, almost entirely from episode 22, he's a Core-type only. Everyone else from Watatsumi was murdered, but he still has an actual, physical body still, that's what was in the Mir fragment, and set free at the end of that episode. The majority of his Festum-ness comes from the fact that he was connected to Vagrant, and basically took control of it.

Everything before 22 was just him projecting his image, I guess in a way similar to what Tsubaki and Orihime do. But in this case he was probably tagging along with Jonathan, waiting to manipulate him.

Fujo don't have an issue with love triangles or female love interests given they are prominent in a lot of mecha. Though the sparse Soushi and Kazuki interactions may have hurt interest/sales cause I see they are a huge part of the buying market for this series.
