Yousuke is very much Sasuke 2.0. The only thing dragging him down is that Shun Shioya isn't nearly as charismatic as Teruaki Ogawa.

Nanami is the team girl. It's unfortunate, but it's not a Hurricanger problem; it's a sentai problem.

Kouta has a lot of character to him. He's the heart of the team. While he was a bit of a prude and could be as hard headed as Yousuke, he was the voice of reason of the three and seriously valued hard work. I remember a big part of the show before they got too far into the Gouraiger arc was Yousuke and Kouta bumping heads. Saying he had nothing about him is very disingenuous.

The Gouraigers, while somewhat similar and undeniably edgelords, didn't stop them from being interesting. Ikkou was the cold, but ultimately soft older brother. Isshu was the tempermenal, but eternally loyal younger brother. As someone who is very close with my own brother, I found them very relatable characters.

Shurikenger was definitely interesting. He was eccentric, but cool; wise; but a doofus; close, but always aloof. He was very much a mentor to the group. I enjoyed his mysteriousness and how it shaped his relationships with Gozen and the other rangers.

The characters are not bland. They're stock, like most other sentai characters. I can say the same for any sentai from Liveman to Kakuranger to Megaranger, It's always about the actors. I've already conceded that Shioya is no Ogawa, but I found all of the actors competent and believable. There are worse ninja sentai characters to be sure with characters like Seikai or Fuuka.

For the sake of narrative practicity most of those details on these shows are skipped. Although many of the earlier sentai are a military division, like sun Vulcan or Changeman.

That said, they are fucking useless most of the time in Ultraman so its good they arent active.

Sculpted lips in Helmets! How do you feel about them? Going by just this picture alone, they looked great in Zyu but awful in Gosei and Kyoryu. I think it had to do with how young the Goseigers actors were and how masculine and bold the face plates were.

My two favorite helmet designs are Shinken and Gokai, neither of which have sculpted in lips.

What do you prefer? Lips or no lips?

Nothing really happened story wise, but the characters and MOTW were fun.
I liked the suit designs, Shurikenjin was shit, Lion Ha-Oh was meh but Gekiatsu Dai-Oh was really good.

The villains had a lot of wasted potential, I liked Ariake no Kata though.
Kyueemon was pretty alright.

Not great, mediocre at best.
It was fun to watch and it had cool robots and fun toys. Except for Kinji, none of the characters really got a complete character arc and what little development they got fell totally flat. Important events were badly timed and the villains were all totally wasted, though I thought the yokai designs were fun and silly. Ariake and Gabi Raimon went out like chumps.

Coming off ToQger, Ninnin was something of a disappointment.

At least we got Kinji and Dadninger out of it.

If you had to describe Sentai to someone, Ninninger would be it.

It never really deviates from what it sets out to do and never really tests the waters with anything, it just goes with the flow and stays on course following what a Sentai is. The obvious exception with this was the returning ninja cameos from Sentai and Metal Hero, but even those just had a feeling of "Even though they're here it just feels like you met someone's old friend rather than another hero".

They had a problem at the start where they were pushing traits onto their characters hard(Yakumo and Takeru were the most grating of the bunch), but then around episode 8 or 9 they realized "Holy crap, we made a huge mistake" and started easing off of it while also working with their actors which really helped in the long run and made Takaharu's catchphrase way better(>>>/wsg/939858).

The enemies felt like they were dicking around more than trying to cause chaos, especially Kyuuemon who was trying to go behind everyone's back constantly rather than gather fear after Ariake was brought into the picture.

"Foreign Yokai" felt like it would be a longer plot point than simply MOTW, Gengetsu feels like a chump even though they've shown him shrugging off grandpa, and Kinji's sword felt like others used it more and better than him.

It was an okay season, but nothing more than that.

Kinji = Kasumi > Yakumo > Takaharu > Nagi = Fuuka for how much I liked them in the end.

So when are we gonna get the next Dinosaur sentai

Ultramen can just get big and stomp everyone until the sentais get their mechs going, then it's more of skill if one bane can beat five people controlling another bane

When it comes to mech-scale fights and the like you're not really going to see a Rider try and punch Ultraman's foot, they'd either have to take down the others before they get big/get mechs or put in focused attacks on weak points on the mechs/men

It really all comes down to who's abilities would be useful against whatever situation the others would bring upon them

Kuuga and Agito are basically gods who constantly evolve, Black/RX is another jesus who can constantly resurrect as long as the sun exists and survive/repel most attacks, Decade is literally perfect and basically hasn't been touched in a fight in any movie since his show ended, most of the other Riders have shown to be pretty powerful as well such as Hibiki and Hyper Kabuto but aren't particularly god-tier

Trash, it felt like Decade, you could skip to the final two episodes and not miss a thing.

Every interesting enemy that was introduced is killed off immediately, and the lead villains are an objective downgrade from the Shadow Line, who had their own little conflicts between each other which made them much more interesting. They had Schwartz who came into conflict with Akira etc.

The final boss went down like a jobber, after they build him up as a big deal with their ground fight, and having him kill off grandpa.

Kyuemon had the potential to be like Enter, but they made her go AWOL for half of the series and do nothing of note. The "plot twist" regarding her is stupid as fuck and didn't change anything, they could have just left it out.

Takaharu is atrocious, both in acting and character, he does everything Daigo did with less enthusiasm. Nagi did fucking nothing for the entire series, Kinji became boring very quickly after being introduced, Fuuka was there to get abused, Yakumo was boring and existed to go EZ DANA, and Kasumi only served to occasionally deliver a plot device to solve the problem of the week.

At the very least in ToQger we had a relationship develop between Tokatti and Mio.

The action was nothing special, certainly not a reason to watch it over something else.

The pacing is ass, they introduce what seem like large arcs but completely fuck them up by having them resolved in one or two episodes. Kinji suffered most from this with his rushed American Yokai arc. Afterwards it's back to filler, guest appearances and clip shows, (I think we had three of them.)

I know it's all opinion, but I honestly disliked it. It felt like an obligation rather than something I'd look forward to every week. I watched it to check it off the list, I don't think I'd be able to get through it otherwise.

That's probably it. Maybe the engineering and production cost involved with putting working ankles and wrist joints isn't a worthwhile investment when they can make money off of plastic swords and masks.

But maybe it also has to do with tradition. Kids grew up with chunky diecast toys with blocky proportions and limited articulation. Maybe a toy feels more like a giant robot if it is a big, immovable thing that can move its arms at the most.

The base weapons could be a gattaling gun/six shooter arm with a sheriff star shield. They could all be the rangers spirit animals with the cowboy one controling the heart of the west.

Extra mechs could be a huge horse they could ride that can combine to make armour, A train that can become a shot gun or the a bunch of trains that become the secondary mech, a chain sword cactus and a rattlesnake whip/lasso.

Let's have the monsters be wanted criminals all part of some sort of Kaijin gang. The generals (or Gang leaders) could all be family.

Each one can have a "dead or alive: bounty on their head which is why they keep running into the lone rider. One episode could play on this with one of the monsters of the week be "Wanted: Alive"

Sheriff should be Red or Gold.

One of the mechs final attacks could be a lynching using the rattlesnake.

Miners mechs could be a prairie dog, a mine cart and have several different battle modes like the lobster mech in shinkenja based on different rare materials. Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Candy toys are pretty great. They're basically really simple snapfit kits that come on two or three runners. Usually they'll only be molded in two colors per box, but they come with lots of stickers that usually do a great job at covering for the missing colors. Plus, all the detail is molded in, so if you're good at painting they'll look fantastic once painted. This is what Go-BusterOh can look like with nothing but paint.

Articulation-wise, candy toys blow DX out of the water, and this is the big reason to collect them. Most can do fully dynamic posing in the base robot form, and depending on the design even the final form can be really nicely articulated. Sometimes they even take a few liberties with the design. SamuraiHaoh is notable for this, they modified it so it actually has legs.
