The tone of storytelling in G-Reco is drastically lighter than Zeta. The only things it compares to are Turn A or the sillier parts of ZZ.
Also Zeta was filled with talking heads explaining the situation, which Tomino said he deliberately avoided and put the general message ahead of the story itself.
If you're going to state that someone who doesn't like G-Reco has "been missing the point all along" you might as well spam "PAY ATTENTION" and "STICK TO A/Z" .

It is a notably different show from his older works and, as such, not everyone who likes his older works is going to like it. Even if you see more similarities than differences to his older works doesn't mean everyone will.

Rumor is that it's gonna be a new fantasy mecha story, but that came from Yaraon so take it with a huge chunk of salt.

Either way he's busy with the G-reco compilation movies so it'll be a while before we actually get announcements/confirmation for the rumor.
