I'm not 100% sure if the newtype trapped spirit will be retconned or not since I only have the first issue of the new manga at the moment, but so far it has started out differently than the original blue destiny manga; although Yuu Kajima still ends up as a "guinea pig" test pilot. I feel like I read somewhere that for this manga the trapped newtype spirit is going to be retconned to something that makes more sense technologically. Sort of like it just has a system that's been developed to enhance the ability of the MS to make it so an oldtype pilot that can handle the machine is able perform feats similar to what a newtype can do. Then because the system isn't perfect there's a chance of it getting carried away and making the pilot lose some degree of control sort of in a way like the NT-D or Zero system did for example. I guess we'll just have to see.

Kajima made a cameo in the new stardust memory: rebellion manga and at that point in the story had quit being a federation soldier and become a photographer because he got fed up with fighting iirc, although according to the gundamwiki he never left the federation forces. I don't know if they will involve him in the rebellion story any further even though the cameo itself is Noel asking him to come back to the federation. It would be kinda cool if they gave him some side battle or something in the latter part of the manga.
