>We'll never get an ultra that can use the powers of both good and evil ultras
>>
>>13840943
>wanting more MUH legacy pandering
It's literally the thing the franchise doesnt need.

I hope this time is an entirely new show and not cashing in on the franchise's history. I'm sick of seeing Zero, Eleking, King Joe, and the overused monsters for the billionth time.
>>
>>13840956
>Not wanting the new ultra that's the equivalent of Diend that can summon evil or secondary ultras, or use their abilities
>>
>>13840956
Unfortunately, the most popular monsters make a lot of money in toy sales and they save money by only having to make a new suit for them every so often.
>>
>>13840956
>he doesn't know this franchise is all about legacies
>He doesn't know nostalgia is literally saving the franchise until it can stand on it's own again

I mean the reused monster complaint is fair enough, but we're still at an impasse with the franchise. It's garnering enough cashflow for consecutive installments, but Tsubaraya still can't just pop out new suits nonstop. Be reasonable.
>>
>>13840956
I'm fine with pandering, I just wish they started using the lesser popular kaijus (not even unpopular/niche ones, just not the typical Eleking/Baltan/etc). There's a lot of good kaijus (especially from the Heisei series) that could be used more often

Zetton can stay though. The SFX always gets me completely hyped.
>>
>>13841092
>he doesn't know this franchise is all about legacies
Not really, at most you had past ultramen/actors returning but that's it, at least before Mebius.

>Be reasonable.
Nigga, they had been doing this for years, we had Zero movies, Ginga, Ginga S and X last year. I liked those (except Ginga 1, and I liked Ginga S for not being Ginga 1 mostly) but it's time to move on.
>>
>>13841156
I want to see them bring back Gatanzoa or Chaos Header
>>
>>13842124
Tsuburaya always had problems when it comes to experimenting with anything new. Even their other IPs tend to either not last very long, or end up getting linked into Ultra in some way (usually both).
>>
I hope they bring Anno
>>
>>13842571
>Japan always had problems when it comes to experimenting with anything new
FFTY

Toei just got very lucky with Kuuga
>>
>>13842124
I genuinely liked Ginga S for what it was. I found the ending to be really satisfying, just wish the series was longer so they could throw in more character development.

But yeah, it's unfair to tell Tsuburaya to "move on" given their situation (Ultraman not as popular anymore + budget issues + Bandai owning almost half of the company)
>>
>>13842612
This is a bigger problem than Ultraman or Tsuburaya though. Toku has been on life support for many years. Ultraman got it worse but that doesn't mean rider and sentai are doing fine
>>
>>13842638
I try to take information about ratings from Japan with a grain of salt since they are likely just a portion of the folks actually watching the shows.
>>
>>13842720
We've been through this countless times. Japan is behind the rest of the first world on streaming and the most recorded shows on DVR are stuff like Dragon Ball Super, not toku. Nips care a lot about ratings, they're still the most trustable measure of audience. Also, the SHT movies have a lower recaudation every year
>>
>>13842638
You're a fucking retard.
>>
>>13842740
Who's we?

But anyway, I would have thought that stuff like streaming and DVR would have been something of a godsend to people that usually spend their time at work or at school.
>>

I hate to be THAT guy, but sentai and rider are in a similar situation and do fine.

>le unnecesary Toei comparison

Toei gives the suits to Saban for use on their shows, not to butcher them. They are just two different ways to approach their franchises. Whether you like them treating their kaiju suits better or not is irrelevant to this.
>>
>>13850973
Saban butchers all the suits
>Toei sends them over seas after extensive use in Japan, squibs exploding on the suits and tears.
>Saban puts them through more of that shit.
>Saban then keeps reusing them long after their expected lasting rate.
>Foam rubber only last so long
>They then use parts of different monsters to make new ones.
>Saban let ABC Family auction off older suits to make money for the series.
>The suits are barely recognizable.

Meanwhile, Toho and Tsuburaya either just retire the suits, put them on display in a Toku Museum, or put them in stage shows/festivals.

>>
>>13851998

Well, its not a Tsuburaya chart, but an Ultraman chart (including shows that are somehow connected to the Ultraman franchise). Has Gridman or Azteckaiser ever crossed the Ultra universe?
>>
>>13852030
Well, no. Not sure what would lead one to think Gridman is getting subs, though.
>>
>>13852030
Gridman appears in a DVD special of Ultra Galaxy Legends, was filmed by the time he got an SHArts figure. He contacts Belial and yells at him how he's not been in anything recently.
Belial says 'he'll work on getting him a figure' and then blast the computer.

Gridman also was in the 90's Tsuburaya commercial.

Azteckaiser was in a recent stage show where Ultraman Zero was judging a bunch of other heros to see if they're good enough. Triple Fighter, Azteckaiser, Koseidon and Gridman were there.

>>13846519

It's what make Ultraman different from other sentai and rider and the series's selling point.

It's like if a kid bring some figure like Terror Dopant, no one bat an eye. But if Gomora was brought, everyone will know it.

Gen's mentor wasn't originally supposed to be Dan. It could be possible that he wasn't written as Dan at first, and they didn't really 'readjust' (read: actually keep his character/personality straight) for the new role. Obviously that's just speculation/something that cannot really be confirmed, unless somebody speaks Japanese well and is willing to do the research.
Or Ultraseven is actually a pretty abusive teacher and has a bad temperament towards those who often disobey him and display incompetency, who knows~.

The Japanese wiki for Ultraman Leo speaks about it a little.
>yfw Manatsu Ryu's name isn't even his actual name, just some nickname he got during highschool because he was in a band
>>
>>13868661
I thought he was just bitter about being crippled.
>>
>>13868730
No reason to take it out on Gen
>>
>>13868744
Of course not. I'm just sayin' that it didn't sit well with him that he was out of action and had to rely on a new guy that barely knows what he's doing.
>>
>>13868744
Well, when your student often fucks up/rebels against you, and your own life + everyone on Earth's lives depends on Leo, I can imagine being frustrated. Not to say the physical/mental abuse was completely justified, but Gen really does get too immature and careless in his responsibilities, and in some ways it's actually good that he got a strict asshole for a teacher.

Like the Ron episode for example, Leo was being fairly self-centered and prioritized his pet over protecting Japan at first until Seven slapped some sense into him.
What I don't understand was fucking Dan and the car "training", despite the fact that if he killed Gen or severely hurt him by literally running him over with the car, Leo would also become a cripple and useless like him. I guess Dan did not consider the consequences long enough.
>>
>>13868788
Dan was a total monster in that show. He didn't even bother to teach gen most of the time.
>>
>>13868840

>>
>>13868885
I think that's only because the training regimes had to stop, since Gen's poor actor was getting hurt a lot from them. Otherwise, we would have probably seen more Dan being Leo-Dan, but less morbid and dark.

That said, was anyone else a little weirded out by that one scene (where it was only Gen and Dan at the MAC station), Dan said something like "...which is what I would say if everyone was here" so light-heartedly? It just felt so off, even though that's more of his actual personality.
>>
>>13868661
>>13868528
I wonder if Dan's mentor shenanigans alienated the Japanese audience. Japan loves abusive paternal figures and shitting over young weaklings but Dan is like the Superman of the Ultra series, arguably even above Hayata. Not the only reason why Leo was a flop but maybe one of the main reasons
>>
>>13868927
Didn't the training regimes stop because the ratings were shit so Tsuburaya tried to make the show into a more convencional Ultra series?
>>
>>13868935
I'm curious about that too. I know the Japanese do agree that Dan was abusive (Google translated some questions/answered off Nippon Yahoo answers for some other thing a while ago, had some users mention his odd "training"), but I don't know if it was part of the reason why Leo did so poorly.
They also don't know why Astra was never officially 'Ultraman Astra', except for one mistake on a product.
>>13868943
The regimes had to stop because of the health and safety of the actor for sure (he complained a lot about it, also got almost paralyzed at one point), but whether or not the directional change would have changed it isn't something either of us could confirm. The directional change might have been a part of it, though the darker-tone of the series from what I've read was more of the problem.
>>
>>13868977
Maybe that's why Mebius retconned Leo as the abusive mentor instead of the abuse victim
>>
>>13868989
It's not really a retcon when Mebius didn't really suggest he was like that before, just that he was like that nowadays. Or did the episode actually imply that Leo was always like that?

>>
>>13868989
I've always just viewed it as a reference gone kind of wrong. Like I understood what they were trying to do, but like Seven in Leo's respective series, they got his character somehow wrong and it ruins everything.

Or Leo really did grow up bitter. Maybe it's from the stress of handling Seven's dumb rebellious teenage son, and he now understood how much of a pain of the ass it was. I just pretend Leo's episode in Mebius didn't really happen, and Leo's still a moeblob with a good and kind heart. And still cries himself to sleep sometimes
