The actual Meer in the episode after she died when we saw her flashbacks was better in every way than Lacus. Meer wanted to make people happy. Meer thought Lacus wanted to make people happy and thought people needed Lacus. Meer wanted to feel needed and wanted to make people happy. It's right there in the show. 100 episodes later and we still don't have an understanding of Lacus.
