Then we see the New Gen Reploids have the ability to morph into stronger reploids like Sigma.

In the Zero series we see very similar technology with Weil's Numbers in Zero 3 and 4. They are really just New Generation Reploids??

In ZX the copy chip technology has advanced so far that they only need to use biometal.

Yes. The Zero timeline is kinda wierd in that it assumes X5 was the last game in the series, and that Megaman died in that final fight with Sigma (meaning it's an altered version of that particular ending) with a dude taking his body later, while Zero was put into stasis because of the damage he received in that battle. Or something like that.

Not really. What happened was:
- Maverick Wars (X1 until X8, it didn't end yet)
- Mother Elf created, Sigma dies, Maverick Wars end
- Neo Arcadia is built by X
- Weil steals Mother Elf, turns it into Dark Elf
- Elf Wars begin (no game)
- This war kills 90% of the Reploids and 60% of ALL humans

At the end of the Elf Wars, Zero switched bodies and went to sleep for some reason, and X used his own body to seal the Mother Elf.
In Megaman Zero 2, Elpizo destroys X's body to break the seal on the Dark Elf. From that point onwards, X only exists as a Cyber Elf.

(About Zero switching bodies, it's not because of the artstyle change, but because Omega has his real body in Zero 3).
